I am running short of .35 rem ammo and I am thinking of switching to 200 gr instead of the 150 gr remington core lokt I have been shooting for a decade,I am down to 23 shells.

These are the two I am leaning towards as It is easier to get for me....

Hornady LEVERevolution Ammunition 35 Remington 200 Grain Flex Tip eXpanding

Remington Express Ammunition 35 Remington 200 Grain Core-Lokt Soft Point

Which one are you guys shooting?.....

I shoot the Remington.
My shots with the 35 are always 100 yards or less and the 200 grain Core-Lokt bullet is a real hammer on deer sized game.
The Hornady shoots no better in my rifle and I have been instructed by an ammo manufacturer (Ga Arms) that for 35 Rem, the Remington brass is superior for reloading (thicker brass).
If the Hornady shot better in my rifle, I might go in that direction but I am easily shooting sub 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with the Remington and under 2 with the Hornady...the price is about the same and I have never had an animal leave my sight when hit with this ammo (only one that I can remember even took any steps from the spot they were standing).

I reload these days but from what I have seen lately with Remington ammo--I would stay away from it. I bought a bunch of Remington 30-30/35 Rem/32 Win SPL/308 ME/338 ME back in 2012-2013 during the ammo shortage era. I inspected a bunch of it two years ago and found the QA/QC extemely lacking--no crimp/heavy crimp/light crimp/different COAL/cartridge necks and shoulders cracked--etc.

That's distressing. Hmm....I bought a box of Remington Corelok 35REM ammunition during the ammo shortage too. I had to pay $40 a box, which was a rip off, but it was the only ammo I could get besides Hornady. I can get Hornady at a fair price and I find the soft point ammo gives me longer distance shots. I bought the CoreLok because the bullet design is a solid tip and would be better for shorter range shots in case I run into a Bear looking for trouble.

I will inspect the Remington ammo. Thanks for the Tip!

I am not going to reload,I have no interest in it and have other hobbies that take the majority of my time.I am just interested in thoughts on those two types of ammo.I will probably be going with the hornady but always nice to listen to others who shoot certain ammo....It just isn't worth my time to reload for the amount I shoot.

I have used both on deer. The Hornady made mincemeat of the part it hit. Thank goodness I was shooting for the lungs. She still ran 30 yards but there was an easy trail to follow (I do like an easy to follow blood trail). Last year I shot one with the Remington 200s. The buck ran 30 yards, small hole on both sides. Not much blood. These deer were not within sight when they fell so I can't say whether they just stopped to regroup or died in stride. I've only shot the one with Hornadys and my wife has shot several with the Remingtons. They both seem to do the job if you do your part. Lots of folks seem to like the Hornadys. But most that have used the Remingtons seem to swear by them.

Well it sounds like I'm not much help.
Happy Hunting,

I have been using Federal 35 Rem 200grn round nose soft point. Works good in my old Marlin 336.

I have been using the Hornady 200gr ftx and Federal blue box 200gr round nose soft point. Both are fine hunting rounds and produce roughly the same groupings. I am reloading now and will use my own this year. :)

The Hornady loads shoot well & kill, but they have shorter cases. If anyone wants to reload them, you need to take that into consideration.

RET_ENG is right about the quality issues. I've heard a lot about ftf etc.

The Hornady cases for 30-30/32 Win SPL/35 Rem are regular length. The big bore stuff is shorter due to COAL limitations with the FTX bullet.

Federal Power Shok and Fusion has a $5/box rebate on it right now.

Unfortunately Walmart doesn't carry it in 35 Rem, but they just rollback'd power shok 30-30 to $9.97/ a box, and 308, 270, 30.06, and 243 back to $11.97/box, so after the rebate it's $5-7/ box.

Winchester has a $10/box rebate on Accubond CT, Ballistic Silvertip, Expedition Big Game or Expedition Big Game Long Range

There's a reason why you see the 150 Remington Core Lokts on the shelf and not the Remington 200's. I saw some of the Federal 200's on the shelf a couple of days ago at a store in Brattleboro and almost got them. I have a lot of the Hornaday LR and Remington 200's already so I passed on them for now.

35 rem..... "a really good reason to reload" plus its just fun. :tee: Factory rounds I go with Federal blue box 200gr

200gr round nose is what is best suited for the 35 in my book. If buying, I would get the Rem's. I reload the same bullet and am satisfied. but admit that I have never seen a legal buck when carrying a 35. The 30-30's and 45/70's seem to be more lucky.

Stocked on coreloks 200 gr about 4-5 years ago. Big mistake I think, I’ve got about 6 boxes and the only deer I’ve shot with them I was not impressed, small hole in one side and no exit hole. Very little blood, spent about 30 mins to find him 70 yards a way. It was an off hand 100 yard shot double lung into the opposite shoulder. My hand loads do much better.

I used my reloads with 200 gr coreloks and the deer never take a step. However I'm about out of them so been trying some different bullets and I like the performance of the Speer 180 gr fp. Only shot one deer with them but it also dropped and it did some pretty significant damage. I may try some Sierra 200 gr yet too. Oh, and I also dropped one in his tracks with an RCBS 35-200 lead with a neck shot.
Come to think of it, I never had to track a deer that I shot with a .35. Love the caliber for deer hunting, especially in my 18" barrelled 336.

I agree with the post above, buy a box from each brand and use the brand that shoots the best out of your gun.

The Winchester 200gr RN factory loads hit about 3" lower at 100 yards than the Remington 200gr RNCL and the Hornady Flex Tips. All of them grouped about 1.5"-2". I have not tried the Federal 200gr RN.
