Whats the trick to taking the pin outa the bolt? Both retainer pins in my bolt wont budge!

Never did this before but I figure you must remove the rear pin and half of the firing pin to let the bigger half slide out the rear hole?

Is there A certain position the firing pin must be in the allow the retainer pin removal?

Are they roll pins or solid ones? Those roll pins can be bothersome if your drift isn't the right size. They tend to open up. I THINK its a 3/32" hole.

The best way I'v found if they dont move easy is to clamp the bolt on a vise between a couple blocks of wood or aluminum & beat it harder. I drive them out from the bottom & in from the top.

Theres a couple writeups with pics in the reference section but I dont believe I used a vise. Usually its not needed.

I got em after a 24hr. soak in ATF , 6 hrs. in Hopps#9 , and a shot of BLASTER pen. oil . They were the solid pins .

Dang sure weren't no danger of them just up and falling out I tell ya! And yes sir , I had to put a lick on em to break em free .

I had to do it as the fireing pin was so sticky and gunked up that you couldn't push it in the bolt with a finger nail! Never had one like this before , was kinda worried about a slam fire .

Its all good now and works free like it should . Now another question , Is a fireing pin suppose to be magnetic? This one is .

Magnetic, hmm. Maybe they grind them in a centerless grinder for the pin itself, if not demagnetized then they would retain it.

The magnetic pin kinda had me a wondering about it a " sparkin and a arkin " in there ! I dont want one of them electric muzzel loaders! Maybe they all are , as this is the first one I every removed , It stuck right to the bolt . ???

glad you got it done. I've never had one that hard to get the pins out.

Was it like that when you took it out?

I have one thats slightly magnetic but I noticed it after cleaning it. I chucked it in a drill & hit with 400 grit & then steel wool. I figured I magnetized it by spinning it in the wool. I'v had a bunch of them apart & feel safe saying they arent magnetic by design.

I cant say for sure if it was when I took it out at first , But yes I cleaned it with steel wool by hand. I noticed it when I was puting it back together . Maybe thats how It happened .

Thanks for the help thow! :)
