Great picture! I haven't harvested with the 45-70 325gr FTX. But, I've harvested with the 325gr FTX in the .450 , which was awesome on this big hog at a bit over 100 yds. Full penetration with a thick shield.

I've also killed some big bucks with the .444 265FTX, so I feel fine using it on anything I'm going to hunt.

 

Nice buck and hog! I have to admit that although I've been loading and shooting the 45-70 for a long time, I haven't hunted all that much with it. So you took big game, and I got a... rogue watermelon! Laughing here.

Well, I can truthfully say that the 45-70 is absolutely "enough gun" for rogue watermelon...

Sometimes ya just have to have a little fun with a big bore lever action!

It’s good to make an example sometimes, keeps the other watermelons in line.

 

i dont know if i was just unlucky or i came across the watermelon king, but when i shot it the bullet just zipped through in a painfully uneventful manner. Then i had the guilt of only wounding a watermelon and having to track it before putting it down for good...with some 00 Buck, now that was explosive.

 

...well done: when they're just wounded, they're even more dangerous
