Hello guys,
I'm new here and I wanted to get some info about a 1894 marlin I just purchased and can't find to much info on it. All I found out it was built in 1973. I bought for a ranch rifle but I here it's some what rare.

Welcome- that rifle is beautiful, and in amazing condition. I would happily shoot it, and probably a lot, but hesitate to use it as a ranch rifle. Not just because of its rarity and condition but mainly because there are much more handy, less wieldy options available. A standard 20” round barrel .44, or a 16-18” .357 would be a good bit more portable and quicker to shoulder. At any rate, congrats on such a fine acquisition.

Beautiful rifle. As far as using it as a ranch rifle: if you own the ranch and manage the staff as you drive around in your Ford F250 King Ranch with an empty back seat then I would use it as a truck gun. If you are the staff and the gun gets tossed into the back along with a pile of tools and other unidentifiable stuff that would take more than an hour to clean up then I would not use it as a truck gun.

Here's some info...

I'm no expert but this is what I have learned about the 1894 Octagon.

There were a total of 2,957 manufactured in 1973. They were only made in 1973. The retail price is listed in the '73 catalog as $135.

In 1973 Marlin also made 3 other "Octagon" Models. They were all limited production numbers.

The other models were:

336 Octagon
39M Octagon
39A Octagon

All of the "Octagon" Models are hard to find.

There was a 39A Octagon that recently sold on GB for $1800+
