Hey MO’s, with all the AR scare going on in Canada right now, I decided to bite the bullet and get a lever gun. It’s still a carbine, right?
Haha.
My first rifle, lever gun, and new project;
A Marlin 1895 GBL Bronze Knight, ltd ed.
So far, I’m extremely impressed.
If a .45-70 gov’t guide gun bucks anything like a single shot 10 gauge magnum.. then I’m going to fall more in love with this thing real quick:)

P.S No flaws or imperfections, fit & finish is perfect, no blemishes or or marks on the Cerakote, cycles both dry and live beautifully crisp.. just need to get out and shoot it and see how it groups.

Happy shooting everyone.

Thanks guys! I was originally looking for an 1895 Dark, so I was a little skeptical at first without seeing this rifle in person, but now I’m absolutely blown away with how cool and unique this thing is. Pictures do not do the laminate furniture justice.
Purchased from Dante Sports online in case anyone is curious. They were great to deal with.

Congrats on buying an 1895. I fell in love with mine before I got it home.
If your looking for recoil, you came to the right place. You may have to hand load, but you can have 10 gauge kick.
The recipe is a light lever action and high velocity. RECOIL.

Thing is you don't have to load the 45/70 hot to kill any animal in the lower 48 states.

I'm partial to loading mine with 405 grain Gas Check Cast Performance bullets. I load em to about 1600 fps. That's my do it all load.
If you want a stomp the shooter load... You can load em.

Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome and info right off the bat! Hear me out ... Being a regular LS1 v8 forum user, this is the most welcoming forum I have ever joined, I hope that’s saying something 👍🏼 [thumbs up] .
Thank you everyone again!

Living in Canada, although loving my Country and Province... I stand by the US of fre*kin A ... we have had some things going haywire here. I won’t touch on gov’t topics other than the good ol’ big brass and big bangs, if you catch my drift (; LOL. Anyways, I definitely think I made the right purchase.
I’m going to run a few boxes of factory ammo through it first and I’ll update, then after some good research and reading I have every intention of getting into hand loading and working my way up.
I feel like a kid in a candy store, I can’t get this thing outa my hands, here’s some more pics under an LED.

I really like that cerakote finish. Now I know why you and that rifle have a love affair. You have to be careful with these things or that disease called "marlinitis" will set in and before you know it you'll have more than one of these sitting around in your gun safe. :adore:

Congrats on the new toy! Where are you in in Canada? I’m on the west coast. I’m sure you’ve seen and signed all the various petitions, and joined the CCRF etc? It’s going to be a challenge getting these prohibitions repealed!

I’ve always been a lever action fan, and with the rumours and rhetoric flying from that guy, I traded my last “evil” M1 Carbine on a 336 BL in February. Mine is the .30-30 version of what you have, minus the bronze cerakote. What are your plans for the 1895? I’m assuming you’re going to add to it since you referred to it as a “project”. Skinner and Ranger Point Precision are your go-to people for sights and other bits. RPP has a bunch of cool stuff for 1895s.

Thank you! I’m still quite excited

even more so now that I’ve shot it!
Southern Ab, right on! I was just out on the coast last summer. Yes to all the petitions, every last one. I haven’t joined CCRF yet. You speak truth, but I still hold my hopes high.
Seeing as M1’s are banned now, I’d say that was a smart move. As much as it sucks. Congrats on the 336 .30-30, I hope you’re enjoying that rifle as much as I am enjoying mine.
Yes I do have a few small plans for the 1895. I already ordered the XS lever rail and ghost ring sight system from Brownells. I like the factory buck horn, but I find just too much glare for small targets past 75 yards and I find I really have to focus in. That’s not a problem at all, but with the recoil of the 45.70... it makes re-acquiring targets at that range slower than I’d like. It can be done with practice, but I am going to make things easy and spoil myself a little. I was looking at the skinner sights, and to me... personally when I handled the SBL and the Trapper, I preferred the XS ghost ring sights. Plus the black rail will contrast with the bronze and I think it will look amazing, plus I have plans for an optic later.
I may end up changing the OD green Paracord for Black around the big loop, but for now it’s a nice contrast. And possibly a cartridge sleeve if I can find a high enough quality one to put on. To be honest that’s it. Having the bronze Cerakote already done knocks a massive step off my list.
how about your BL? Any plans?

VERY NICE LOOKING MARLIN!!!

Being your first, I can assure you, you can depend on a Marlin lever action rifle,
at least I have for the past couple decades with my
44 year old Marlin.

Enjoy, and welcome from the Arizona high desert southwest.

UPDATE:

Took a trip out last Saturday, June 6th, to my designated CL range spot with my Bronze Knight, and fired off 29 rounds of Hornady 325gr FTX just to get a feel for the .45-70, and see where the rifle was shooting. I have plans to go back out before the end of this month to feed a few more boxes through the 1895.

First off. Wow! What a rifle!

No flaws, hang ups, or anything bad to report so far. Factory buck horn Irons were right on (as far as I could tell), the rifle cycled absolutely beautifully and shot even better!
As for my comment about recoil in the OP, even the 325gr definitely has a similar push to a 10 gauge, with a lot more blast. It’s really not that bad, and I’m personally going to have a lot of fun... but maybe some should take that statement with a grain of salt, coming from a guy that as a kid used to break the butt stocks off his toy guns emulating recoil LOL. I can see how the .45-70 could be intense for even some avid shooters.

Attached are pics of the first 2 targets and 6 rounds of .45-70 I have ever fired. 5” circles. First was placed @ 30 yards, second was set @ 75 yards. Haha I guess I need to be careful what I ask for; the recoil actually got me on the 3rd shot, on both targets! I pulled those shots. By the end of the box, I was already feeling more comfortable.
I definitely need some more practice and can’t wait to get more comfortable and 110% confident with the .45-70 Gov’t. So far, for not being at a range and shooting for more then a year, I’m nothing short of impressed at my own performance ... and absolutely purring like 6 cats at this Marlin 1895 GBL’s performance.

Thanks again everyone for the comments and warm welcomes.
Happy shooting to everyone
