1894 magazine tube confusion

I have a question regarding magazine tubes on pre-safety model 1894 rifles.
I am re-barreling a pre-safety 357 to .256 win mag to 24" octagon. Original barrel length was 20" round. I want to also replace the magazine tube.
All of the available magazine tubes in Numrich show they use the same tube for 30-30; 38-40; 38-55; 357; and 44. I own both my 357 and a near identical 44 and there is a substantial difference in diameter between the two magazine tubes. The 44 tube will NOT drop right into the receiver of the 357. I do NOT want to modify my 357 receiver in case I decide later to return it to original, though I probably will if forced to.
Can anyone shed some light on this dilemma?
Can anyone point me to a source for a 24" magazine tube that will directly replace the 20" I have?

Thank you.
Tom

Somewhere in the Numrich/Gunparts paper catalog they had "universal" tubes of different diameters that you could whack to length and drill for the end cap to whatever length you required. Fit Marlins, Winchesters, whatever. Brownell's had the same. Probably a tube for a 92 Winchester could be adapted, too. Doesn't sound right that a .357 1894 tube would be the same as a .44, I know that the .32-20 tube is a lot smaller than the .44. So Marlin DID have different tubes sizes for different calibers. I imagine that the 336 tubes are pretty much all the same, though, the base sizes of .30-30, 32-40, .38-55, .375 and .35 Rem are all pretty close.

So just looked on Brownells under Marlin parts. They have one tube that's pretty much for all the rest of the callibers, .44, .30-30 base, .375, .35 Rem. They list three different ones for .357 1894s, the CB, the C and the CP. You probably want the one for the cowboy. No lengths listed. If you really wanted to make sure, there's a question feature so you can ask a live person about it. Looks like they're all in stock, too.

I responded to your other thread...I'm in the middle of the same problem...I neede a tube for my 1984 357...its .57 and the others are .62....I called marlin and the kid on the phone told me they were all the same !!!! I got him to look up my rifle by serial number and send me the tube recommended for that rifle...should get the package Mon and will let you know....let me know if you find one somewhere else...between the 2 of us we will win this one....I've tried to find steel tubing the proper size and havent had any luck with that either...dont buy from numrich they only have the big ones (anybody want to buy a 30-30 mag tube??)

I'll watch for your reply. What length were you looking for? I am not opposed to having the bigger diameter except that I don't want to modify my receiver. If necessary I will machine a tapered transition from the larger diameter down to insert into my receiver. It will be covered up by the forearm anway. What length is the tube you bought from Numrich. If it is 24" I'd be interested.

I knew someone would have me digging through reference material. The Marlin part numbers are different because of the size difference and length difference. Part number for 1894c is 214525 and 1894cb is 214600. But to my knowledge, they did not make a 38/357 with a barrel longer than 20 inchs. You might have to get another and have then welded and cut to length. Would still be hidden under forearm stock though.

Yep, from 1996 to 2002 the 1894 Cowboy in 357 Mag was made with a 24" octagon barrel. It wasn't until about 2003 that Marlin started making them in regular production with a 20" octagon barrel. The 24" was also available in 44-40, 44 Mag and 45 Colt.

Weisners makes a replacement magazine tube for the winchester 92 in 32-20.I have used these; they are just tubing ,no holes or cuts. The diameter is .515" and length is 23 9/16". The part # is 21092.Google Weisners for the site.Hope this helps. These are good folks for lever action replacement parts.Checked a marlin .32-20 and the mag tube measured .532. Rim diameter on .357 mag is .427.What was old tube diameter?

I had a few min so I thought I'd help out.
I looked on Brownells and they don't have them for .357, so I looked over on Numrich and found this one. I'm pretty sure this is what you are looking for.
Magazine Tube, .357 Cal., 23'' Overall Length

Have fun with that project,
Lunar
Ok, just went looking, Brownell's still lists the tne CB tube I saw previously and says "In Stock":
MAGAZINE TUBE - Brownells

550-000-091WBMagazine Tube
Mfr. Part: F406305

On the site, select Marlin for mfg., 1894 for model, "receiver parts" and "magazine tubes" to see them all. You don't always end up with the same parts on Brownell's with searches that should have the same results. So don't give up with only one search, try a different method.

I understand this is an old thread. but a comment FWIW...if replacing a mag tube on a model 375 and manbe others rifles. know a couple things: barrle shave two dovetail, one to anchor the fore stock and sling swival and a second or tube anchor dovetail.

I wanted to extend the mag tube on a 375 and this has me holding off, for present. might have to do picky work-around...
