Yep. None. I wouldn't want my favorite Western ruined like they are doing with nearly all the remakes. My favorite is probably "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". But I don't think it could ever be remade better. The performances of Clint, Lee, and especially Eli I don't believe can be surpassed!

A movie I would like to see remade is A Man Called Horse. I really liked the original film. Richard Harris did a wonderful job. But a newly made movie would benefit from today's cinematography, special effects, and high quality digital sound. There was also a sequel, The Return of A Man Called Horse, that continued the story. Each of those films was a couple of hours long. So, maybe the best of both could be rolled together into one 2-1/2 hour to 3 hour movie.

As for a series I have a completely different idea -- a five part mini-series.

I read all five books of the Leatherstocking Tales by James Fenimore Cooper. I thought they told a great story. It consists of five books that chronicle the life of Nathaniel (Natty) Bumppo through a critical, early period of America, 1740 to 1804.

The five books and the periods they cover are:

  • The Deerslayer (The First War Path) - 1740-1755
  • The Last of the Mohicans (A Narrative of 1757) - 1757
  • The Pathfinder (The Inland Sea) - 1758-1759
  • The Pioneers (The Sources of the Susquehanna; A Descriptive Tale) - 1793
  • The Prairie (A Tale) - 1804
Natty is known by different names by different people and in different times and places. He is known as "Deerslayer" in The Deerslayer, "Hawkeye" and "La Longue Carabine" in The Last of the Mohicans, "Pathfinder" in The Pathfinder, "Leatherstocking" in The Pioneers, and "the trapper" in The Prairie.

People are only familiar with The Last of the Mohicans. I find that odd because both The Pathfinder and The Deerslayer are better books.

A mix of some of the stories was cobbled into the movie The Iroquois Trail (1950). A couple of film versions of Last of The Mohicans have been made. The most famous was the 1992 film that transformed the book from an engaging tale of adventure into a big screen version of a romance novel. There were two Canadian series done drawing from a couple of the books. One of those was Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans (1957) and the other was Hawkeye (1994). But all of the film and TV adaptations were very loosely based on the character. Most changed his name. None told the real story. None were complete.

Each of the books is good enough to stand on it's own. What's needed is a five part mini-series that sticks to the original story as told in each of the books.

3: 10 to Yuma was remade and it wasn't ruined, rooster cogburn (true grit) was redone and in my humble opinion it wasn't ruined. the magnificent 7 was remade. I admit I liked the originals better but they were still worth remaking and watching,,,,,,,,,,,

I agree... I mean, even if they re make one, we still have
the original.

I'd like to see "Big Jake" redone. I think Jeff Bridges portreyed John Wayne's character well in True Grit and would do a good job.

If "Western" were just in the title, a redo of "All's Quiet on the Western Front" would be great.

I love all the old series.High Chapparal,Bonanza, gunsmoke, have gun will travel, wild Wild West,Dead or Alive,Maverick, rawhide,Big valley, rifleman and all the other old Western tv shows. And old Western movies with John Wayne too.
But,they can’t be brought back.Liberal hollywierd will screw them up.Look at what they did to the Wild Wild West!If they tried to redo Bonanza,I am sure lil Joe would be trans gendered.
Instead, just enjoy the reruns. And be grateful you have them.

Night of the grizzly staring Clint Walker... one of my all time favorites... not sure who could fill his shoes in a remake.

I've long thought that a remake of the movie How the West was Won (1962), with its epic scope plus a lot more realism and grit, would have the potential to be the greatest Western ever made.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my all time fav's and I agree, Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Eli Wallich, Robert Duvall, too many to mention but they made the great westerns what they are. If they can't be improved, why bother?

A well-done historically accurate movie about the
Texas Revolution would be good to.
There have been many attempts at this, but too much
Hollywood always creeps in.
Just like with the last made for TV series they did...
But this is a story that should be told correctly
...outside of Texas.
And not just about the Alamo.
Theres way more to it.
