This is my Steyr M-95 Stutzen. It is a straight pull bolt, made in Austria. Used by German and their allies in both world wars. Later issued to the Russian Navy as the standard rifle.
It is fed using enbloc clips (like the garand) and when the last round is fed into the chamber the clip ejects out of the bottom. Chambered in the 8x56R round, it is a pretty potent rifle, the 8x56r was said to be one of the more powerful rounds of WW2 (almost identical to the 8X57 mauser) It kicks like a mule (thanks to the pretty short barrel). Ammo is not easy to get, i bought 20 rounds of surplus ammo with the gun and havent shot it since. I will be reloading for it one the custom case length gauge comes in from lee. I was supposed to get a mosin, but when i saw this on jg sales website down in arizona, i had to have it. Love the pattern in the wood, and also love the flip up rear sights.

well im still trying to figure out if its in meters or schritten. one schritt= 0.75 meters. when they were rechambered from the 8x50 to the 8x56 they were supposed to be converted to meters.

bought 100 rds of Prvi factory ammo for mine, just for the brass. Lee dies. Graf has correct size bullets. A HOOT to shoot! This one is my son's Fav - over all the Mausers and even his own personal Mosin. He may come around and favor the recent purchase M1 or 1903 eventually, but I am not so sure...!

I traded for a Steyr Mannlicher with the butter knife bolt handle several years ago. It was a 8x56 so I just trimmed a thousanant off a 8x57 case and it shot well. The sights were regulated for the 200 grain bullet that I think was the standard for this round. It is considerably less powerful than the 8x57. I loaded the 175 sierra best I remember. I still have a new set of dies for the 8x56 Mannlicher and they should work with your gun. If you are interested in them I would let them go cheap, they are RCBS dies. If you think you can use the dies PM me.

If in a bind you can neck up empty 7.62x54R cases. They will fire form to your chamber. Also, they will be a bit short, but seat the bullets out to correct overall length. Get .330 or .331 diameter cast lead bullets until you can find the correct diameter jacketed soft points (.229). Hornady used to make a run a year and they go fast when they are available. Can be load down to soften the recoil and for just plinking shooting. Shenandoah
