How hard is the forend suppose to be to get off.I was going to take it off to check for rust ,but was afraid I would break it trying to get it off.It is stuck pretty good.So I just put the screw back in.

They can be pretty tight at times. Just use a small wood or plastic block as a buffer to gently tap on the band, alternating sides as you go. Don’t try to move either side to much at a time. Sometimes it really helps to lightly wax the wood in front of the band along with a couple of drops of wd40 right on the wood / band seam to reduce friction. Ones really stuck can be encouraged to move by applying heat with a hair dryer / heat gun to the band. You want to only heat the band, which can be done by wrapping the surrounding areas with towels or preferably welders blankets. The old method was to use one of the large soldering irons pressed against the band but not many of us still have those. When reassembling, it’s a VERY good idea to use a small dab of lock tite or nail polish to keep those band screws from rattling loose.

In the case of the wood, just keep gently tugging and wobbling the forend forward to get the back tang to slide out of the receiver recess. Once out can use a little sandpaper to relieve any tight areas but don’t get carried away removing wood. The factory often fit’s the wood very tight to allow for wood shrinkage over time.

Over on the Rossi forums, some of the guys with carbines are also saying that it can be a major pain to get the screw back into the band. (Mine is a rifle and doesn't have the bands)

Guess it would be best to leave it alone. It groups great.I was just going to check if there was any rust going on between the barrel and forend.I saw where some guys had that problem because of the wood not havng any sealer on it.
Thanks Jeff

I've had 5 guys thank me for the tip about drifting that pin out. They didn't know it had to come out and were really cussing their rifles. Also the mag tube end cap has a recess on one side. When you put it back together make sure the recessed side is facing the side where the head of the screw is at. The head of the screw goes into that recessed area. Line it up good as the end of the screw goes into the bottom of the barrel.
Hope this helps.
