I have been loading for the 356 Win in a worked over 336. Thanks to members here (special thanks to Iorg) I have loads using H4198, H322 and H4895. I have been very happy with these powders. As everyone knows none of these powders are available. I have been trying some different powders with less than steller results. I have tried IMR 4198 - Seems to have higher pressure signs with less velocity, AA2015 - Very low velocity, H335 - low velocity and BLC2 - Very low velocity. All loads tested were reloading manual loads with work up to book max. I am about to try VV N133 since I have recently found some. Has anyone tried this powder? Very interested in actual results.
Thanks,
Tom

It depends on the bullet you're using, but for a 180 grain Speer, Accurate has choices. The Accurate 2015 shows velocity up to 2700 fps.
Using a 200 grain bullet, Hodgdon powders you have used without good results or are unavailable are your choices.
The Accurate 2520 shows velocity up to 2404 using a 220 grain bullet in .358 which could be hard to find for use in tubular magazines..
For the 250 grain bullet we're back to the Hodgdon powders that are either not available or too slow for your needs or use.
Winchester has 748 and 760 but they are off the charts slow for only the 220 grain bullets.
I have a 1981 reloading manual published by the NRA. Like an idiot I went to look in it for load data. In 1981 the .356 hadn't even been chambered, yet. DUH. I guess I've been reloading for a few years.
It appears to me the H4198 is your ideal powder and why it hasn't been available is a mystery to me. I use the IMR 4198 for my .444 Marlin and .45-70 with very good results but even the IMR 4198 is unavailable and for quite some time, now.
Good luck with the N133. I have never used VV powders.

I use IMR-4895 with a 200 gr bullet in my 358 Win rifles. Very good velocity and accuracy. That powder is available in my locale and online.

Win 748 gave me good results with a Sierra or Hornady 200gr RN. H335 was also decent with these 2 bullets.

I also just tried AA2015 with the 180 Speer, very accurate, I was a couple of grains under max guidelines in the Speer book.

Back to 748, when I first tried that powder, I was using a regular large rifle primer, results were okay, then I tried a Magnum Primer, groups tightened up considerably. Again, my best accuracy was a grain or two from published data.

With a 220 Speer, mine liked H4895 and H335, but unfortunately that bullet is no longer available from Speer.

I picked up a bunch of the Hornady 250 gr round nose bullets before they were discontinued. Some say they work with the 356 win, some say they don't. But from what I read on the interwebs BLC2 is supposed to be a good powder for that weight. Hopefully I will get the '94 out this summer and find out.

Well, I brought it up because I was thinking it was close to IMR4198. I use Nossler load data as a reference often because I like their online search engine and while they don’t list 356Win they do list 358, and in their chart for 225 gr they show RE7 as the most accurate powder tested. So I thought it worthwhile to mention…
