I have recently purchased several Marlin JM stamped lever guns. theones in question are an 1894 44 Mag and an 1894s 44 Mag.
I am trying to determine what are the differences in these two models. Both are JM stamped. The 1894s has a shiny stock and states on the barrel that it is micro groove barrel. The 1894 has a dull finish and does not state anything about a micro groove barrel. What are the differences between these two? Does the 1894 have ballard type rifling? Your expert assitance on this noob question is most appreciated.
