Owners manual says my new 336Y is supposed to come with a hammer spur. Took the shipping box completely apart and can't find it. Common problem?

Bought/ordered mine at WalMart. It was cheap and came far quicker than it would have from Remlin.

Spurs ONLY with Combo guns.................BULL Feathers!

If that's true now, it looks like those Rem Boys and their Bean Counters are pinchin' more pennies, again!..............Just another cost cutting idea from Remington..............

Hammer Spurs were included with ALL model Lever rifles from North Haven CT..........They were a "Line Item" on the packing/routing sheets.........Same as the trigger lock and Instruction Manual.

How would Marlin or Remington know if the consumer was planning to mount a Scope?.............That Spur can be a SAFETY Item when a scope is mounted...some installations demand a Spur.

Page 15 of the manual:

Offset Hammer Spur:The offset hammer spur is provided along with a mounting wrench to ensure the best hammer control possible when an optic is mounted on a lever action receiver as there may not be enough space between the optic and the hammer to adequately place a thumb on and control the hammer.

Buying one isnt going to break me, but dang it, it is supposed to come with one.

The spur that came with my Remlin 336W was stuck in a corner of the bag that the rifle was in for shipping.
I would have missed it completely, had I not known it was supposed to be included.

The bag it was supposed to be in, with the wrench, were found stapled inside the back of the owner's manual.

They are not necessary. Set the gun up with an intermediate eye relief scope. Leupold base which is longer in the front, so you can mount the scope without the need of the spur.

Never liked them spurs anyway.

My 1895 (not a scope combo) came with a spur, bought it in March.

Stole this from Outdoor Hub

It has been confirmed by multiple sources, that Remington Arms employees in Ilion, New York have been given word to prepare for a temporary work furlough.
Right now, the details are scarce, even for employees, but one worker reportedly told WIBX950, “we were told an official announcement with details will be coming in the next couple of days,” so we will certainly keep our nose to the ground for more news as this story develops.
A furlough is a move a company makes that requires workers to take time off without pay, most likely in an effort to save money during a downtime.
Being that Remington laid off 122 workers back in March, and another 60 in September, this is yet another step in the wrong direction for Remington, who marked its 200th anniversary in 2016. The moves are not company wide and they should only affect workers at the Ilion location where they produce 700 series rifles, 870, and 1100 shotguns.

Okay rookies that don't read the Reference Library this is buried deep in the Gunsmiting Stickies.

One of our members put up this fix 8 years ago. It helps a lot.

Now. GO TO THE LIBRARY AND READ. You'll be surprised at the info in there. Looking lately I'm thinking we have to re arrange it. Hope those who go will do a lot of referencing into a lot of the common Marlin problems.

I don't like using spurs on my lever guns and have never felt the need to use one. Mine stay in a coffee can down in my basement.

I went out looking for a 5-40 screw and couldn't find one (not even at ACE Hardware). I decided to use the one that came with the kit. I couldn't get it to go through at first because it had some blue gunk that had hardened on it. After removing the blue stuff, it went through fine and seemed to go far enough to lock it in place, so I installed it with some blue locktite. I figured there weren't a lot of threads to tighten on, so I snugged it just enough so it wasn't wiggling. We'll see if it requires a fix.

Just picked up my 336BL yesterday and found the hammer spur included. Doubt I'll use it as I plan to mount a Leupold scout scope. Box was sealed/never opened and I know from the tracking that it was drop shipped from the distributor, so it wasn't in a dealer's inventory and perhaps gone through by others. Still, when something should be there, well, it should be. I bought a Wilson Combat 1911 once that was missing a mag when I got it from my FFL. Had to fight between the dealer and Wilson to get that replaced and those particular ones are hard to come by (and worth the fight).
