I was trying to find a metal trigger guard for the 500. The 590A1 has a metal trigger guard but I cant find any place that sells them. I would prefer the 590A1 guard as it is OEM. I also found this from Brownells which has great reviews... http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-pa...rts/trigger-guard-parts/trigger-guards/mossberg-trigger-assembly-prod24369.aspx

Just wanting to upgrade to metal since I did the metal safety with the lip to replace the original plastic one. I just hate plastic parts with a passion so if I can replace with metal I will.

Why not just upgrade to a 590A1? You get more than just a metal trigger guard. Apparently the barrel has thicker walls also. Just a more robust model. Function should be the same however.

Now, I am a big fan of the 500 (but I have also wanted it to be a 590A1 in the back of my mind). The polymer trigger guard has really stood the test of time and many people prefer it to the metal one. I have shot mine quite a bit and have done several upgrades and now it is worth a bit more than an actual 590A1. I did the Vang Comp rebore and porting and upgraded the stock to the Hogue (fantastic!). The iron ghost ring sights are great and are stock on the persuader, although I have used fiber-optic on other shotguns and like them pretty well to (faster too).

Just my opinion, don't get the pistol grip. You gain nothing and lose accuracy and probably some teeth. Enjoy your Mossy!

I wont ever get a pistol grip. My dad has one on his 500a and its no fun to shoot and less accurate.

I have a 28" barrel and a 20" barrel for mine. I use the 20 for home defense and the 28 only goes on to shoot clays.

In the family we have one original Model 500B, a 1963 gun, 16GA, old single action bar design, walnut stock, C-Leckt choke, as they were first made, still has the original plastic trigger guard, still good to go.

I might add a 590A1 to my wish list but I will keep the 500 no matter what. I have heard the plastic trigger guards can break at the front and it will render the gun useless. My 500 is my home defense gun so I want it to be as reliable as possible. That is why I am wanting the metal trigger guard and I also just don't like plastic parts.

Does anyone know where I can get a 590A1 trigger guard? If not I might just get the Brownells I posted.
I already have the metal safety switch that has the lip to make it easier to grip... I think I got it from Brownells.

Key word here is "heard", in 40 years I've never seen or heard of one breaking, don't over think this issue, one of the faults of gun owners, over thinking.

Well, from experience most LEO 500's have the plastic guard, but, have at it. If your serious don't waste time here, go to the Mossberg Owners forum.

Is the brownells metal trigger group a OEM 590A1 trigger group or is it aftermarket? Seen in one of the Q&A someone asked if it is a exact replacement for a 590A1 and Brownells said yes it is. Not sure if they just meant its a replacement part or if its actually OEM made by Mossberg?

The 590A1 has a metal trigger guard because that is required to meet military specs. This makes sense when one considers it also mounts a bayonet and thus must withstand a certain amount of "battering". Hunting shotguns on the other hand are not intended for "buttstroking someone" and thus can get by with a plastic one. For myself I have never seen one of these broken trigger guards on a 500 series shotgun in over 30 years of shooting them. As such I must ask what they were doing to make it break. :hmmmm:

Be cautious.

I picked up a safe-queen Winchester 1300 for home defense. It was soooo cheap!

But I have the same aversion to plastic (Glocks excluded) so I went to work finding an older 1300 metal trigger guard.

I found one easily enough but it turns out that I had to replace a lot of other parts in order to get the metal trigger guard to fit. There were differences other than the metal guard itself.

I'm not sure if the Mossberg will have the same issues, but...
