Story on this airsoft British Bullpup L85A1 Gun I made into a real .22 is like this.

When my Son was around ten years old I bought him this Army L85A1 airsoft copy..It was a very fun little toy. Steel shell of the airsoft is actually a pretty solid piece of work...

Fast forward to recently. I got it out for the Grankids to shoot and the gearbox gave out..Hard to find those parts and they are expensive..So I converted it to a .22 using a Marlin 795 action and barrel.. Hardest part was getting the transfer bar from the forward trigger assembly to the sear on the Marlin action at the rear..And fitting a Promag 25 rounder into the original airsoft magazine shell..I also had to find a new trigger to use..One I found I think from a old Winchester in my junk box was almost like it was meant to be in there..Neither one was real difficult, just time consuming. Anyway it functions flawlessly and should be alot of fun for the Grandones..

So now we have probably the only L85A1 in .22 caliber that exists..One of a kind probably.. Kinda cool.

Have a ACOG knockoff coming this week to mount on it..I have the original carry handle sight..But it is pretty cheaply made and the front sight was too problematic to fit to the handguard..So the ACOG is the answer..The British actually used the ACOG after eventually on the late version L85A3, dumping the SUSAT which was never a great sight anyway..I have since painted the modified black..Will post another pic when the ACOG is..Hope no one thinks this is Marlin Blasphemy, LOL But now the Family Heirloom Airsoft Bullpup can live on and alot of fun will had with it..

Here are some pics.. You can see how I made a transfer bar to link the forward trigger to the sear of the Marlin action, the transfer Bar is made from 3/16ths keyway stock....

I made a block out of just 3/8ths cold flat..Drilled a hole in that the same ID of the OD of the barrel..That block was then drilled and tapped and a socket head screw inserted from each side..Very solis..Did a similar block at the front..That ones purpose is to retain the Hand Guard..The original was cheap pot metal and non workable..

As I said the Promag I put inside the aluminum airsoft mag after gutting it was done by narrowing the Promag first on my Belt sander. Had to app. .100 Thousandth of each side. Also had to shorten the Pro Mag by about a 1/2 inch to get inside and use the airsoft floor plate to retain the spring and follower inside the shell, as the original proPro Mag floor was useless after cutting it off the bottom.... The promag was then roll pinned to the inside of the shell to keep is solid in there.

The little spring at the rear inside the lower serves a dual purpose, it is the trigger return spring and also puts a little downward pressure on the transfer bar to keep it from riding up and out of its retaining slot. It took some thinking on how to do things..But was pretty simple overall, just a little time consuming.. And it all worked great from the get go.

Flash hider is the original off the Airsoft..I just had to throw it in the lathe drill it to a tension fit of the Marlin barrel..Of course the front sight was removed..

The rear mounting of the receiver in the airsoft shell.. Sadly had to drill and tap the receiver on each side for socket head screws to retain that.. I did put thought into another way to do it without drilling the receiver. But none popped as feasible..

Anyway here are some pics of the insides. Hope my explanations are not real confusing,LOL

It was a fun project and very fun to shoot..I barely came in over the minimum legal overall length for a Rifle, but it did by a inch..

The crappy carry handle sight will go when the ACOG optic gets here..

Thanks for the kind words.

The FACOG came today..Not overly impressed by the glass, LOL.But the chevron is actually pretty bright both indoors and Outdoors, though, seems to mount very solid. Adjustment clicks are firm and noticeable.... . Hopefully it will suffice on this Plinker though.....Will let you know how it works out..
