The photos show a fine vintage rifle. Back in the '80s, I bought a Marlin 39AS (JM-stamped North Haven, Conn. production), and mounted Williams FP rear aperture and "fiber optic" front blade sights on it. I shot it with CCI CB Longs, owing to their accuracy and the report from a 24" barrel being a "click" instead of soft "bang" typical of 22 LRs, so as not to disturb the neighbors. Sighted in for dead-on at 50 yards with CB Long ammo, the rifle did the job on crows, jays, and other pests on the ground in the backyard against woods, while shooting from a rear window. (Placing a large owl decoy on a tree branch was even more effective in keeping the pests away.) What Remington was charging for 39s years later was criminal! I'd like to see whether Ruger produces 39s again, and how Ruger prices them.
