I picked up a really nice Marlin at a gun show that has no serial number, and no date code stamped anywhere to be found.

I has Model 30 stamped on it. But I do not find where Marlin made a Model 30 in .22. No squirrel or groundhog on the stock. Just a plain stock.

Anybody have any idea on this one what it is? Miss-stamped? Stamped 30 for some retailer and no history of who?

Could it be 80?

After looking at pictures of 80's, I think a Model 80 would be correct.

But how do I closely determine a time frame for the manufacturing since it has no date stamp and no serial number?
Being made in New Haven dates it prior to 1968, If it has Micro-groove rifling it was made between 1953 and the move to North Haven in 1968; there is no way get an exact year date because it doesn't have a serial number. It could even have been made as far back as 1934. Marlin did change the bolt cocking knob and bolt handle configurations and bolt internals and extractors from time to time that could give a little better idea for DOM. Just shoot it and be happy. They are amazingly accurate to be such a simple rifle. After the GCA of 1968 serial numbers were required on all firearms.

If it has a finger grooves stock it was made in 1936. Other than that you’d have to go with the changes in manufacture listed above.

My 1936 model 80 is crazy accurate. I’d bet yours is too.

I think you may have a Model 80, also..........
Can you post a picture of the receiver and the whole rifle .........
As others have said, the 80's are crazy accurate..........
I have a model 80 C that was the 1st rifle I ever bought in about 1954/55........
I got it as a prize for selling 40 boxes of greeting cards out of Boys Life ! and I would not ever sell it ...........

Scroll down to post #5. If it has Ballard rifling, you can count the grooves.
