I have an original 336 Marauder y prefix and has unfortunately been drilled and tapped for a receiver site that is on it. I am considering selling it and was wondering if the original rear sites were any different from the other 336's? Debating as to whether or not to try and return it to relative original with a replacement rear site and plug screws on the receiver. It's in great mechanical shape and shows honest wear and rate the bluing VGC+ and the stock is sound and in G to VGC with the exception of initials being lightly carved into to the buttstock. I've located a source for replacement sites.

Is it worth the time to "restore" (sites) to original configuration?

What would you say is the approximate worth either before and/or after?

Looks like you have a very, very nice Maurader there. They are harded to find in the 35 rem caliber.
Like other members , the peep sight is installed in 2 holes on the left , rear side on the receiver. Those holes were drilled and taped by the factory...so I see no need to try and find a original rear sight. Most shooters will prefer your peep sight on that short a barreled rifle. I know I would.
I am not going to guess on Value ....because I want to buy it off you !
The worst detractor is the Initials DL carved in the buttstock wrist.

Thanks for the feedback! I also have several hundred rounds of factory ammo that is available. I will ascertain a relative value and place it for sale on here first. It's not an easy one to let go of, I just am thinning the herd and keeping what I'll actually get use out of.

I can see where you're coming from. I recently sold the 336ER that I purchased NIB in 1984. Why? I'd rather see it be used by someone who appreciates it than continue to simply look pretty sitting in my cabinet. Too many toys; too little time. Not complaining, just stating facts.

Good luck. And FWIW, I chose to sell mine here as well to someone who truly wanted it for what it was. 👍

I wouldn't do anything to the rifle if you plan to sell it as you don't know what a potential buyer's preferences are. If you change it, you might change it to something less desirable to a potential buyer and the changes would be a waste of time and effort.

If you decide to keep it, change it to what you want.

Either way, it's a prize. Good Luck!

Just to give you a notion of value, I bought mine on GB about a decade ago for near $2k as I knew they weren't gonna get any cheaper. I don't think I'd sell it for that though as it is, indeed, the Holy Grail of Marlins.

I know these go for relatively "big" money and I won't be trying to squeeze that amount of money out of it. Still assessing shipping dynamics, transfer fees if necessary and associated sale dynamics. I will say I won't be going north of 2k and will be pricing with a baseline of at least 100 rounds factory included with up to an option of a total of 360 rounds and those will be factored in at 2.00 per round which I believe is a fair going price for them. Mostly Remington 200 grain CoreLokt and 60 LeverRevolutions. All factory. will also offer reloading dies in the same sale. I will be posting it later this week. I will give a heads up a day in advance of the intended posting date and time so anybody who is interested doesn't have to stare at the screen nonstop. Just celebrated the weekend as my birthday was yesterday and will be back at starting tomorrow.

I will hopefully be posting some 38-55 antique rifles, factory ammo, brass (both short and long) and bullets soon (within a week).
