Lost my best friend yesterday

It is with a heavy heart that I update the Sprocket Saga.
Monday morning Sprocket was acting in distress so we took him to the vet.
We figure he ate something but no, they found a tumor on his spleen.
It was a type of sarcoma that attacks the blood vessels and as such spreads incredibly fast.
It had ruptured and attacked his intestines and other abdominal blood vessels.
He was bleeding internally and causing him a lot of pain.
Chasing armadillos one day - terminally ill the next. We are still in shock at how fast our world fell apart.
Absolutely nothing we could do except hold our boy, cry, kiss each other and say goodbye.
We couldn't bear to see him suffering.
He was 5 years old. In that 5 years he became an integral part of our lives to the point is we can't do or look at anything without evoking thoughts of him.
God bless the circumstances that brought this fellow into our lives.
We are heartbroken and bereft but still grateful that we had the sheer joy and privilege of calling him our packmate.
He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
Farewell my "bestest dog" - my best friend.

You have given Sprocket a life filled with purpose and love. We have our dear friends for so short a time, it seems. May you find peace.

So sorry for the loss of your Sprocket.
They are with us for such a short while but make a great impression on our lives. They are a wonderful, loyal, loving life.
I hope you have it in your heart to eventually find another one.

My Golden retriever had the same issue as your Sprocket. I always think of the positives and fun times we had with him. As long as you have good memories, your best friend is never really gone.

That's the thing - they do indeed shape our lives.
I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today without my dogs showing me what perfect love is.
I could always be my true self around my dogs because they literally loved me for who and what I was.
I saw a little quote once that has always been in my mind when I'm being contrary:
"May I be the person my dog thinks I am".

Dear BubbaJon,

That is just too short a life, I think dogs are God's best work. I grieve hard for my guys. Scorpiusb.hit it right by posting Dog's Last Will. We have been preaching this for years. I have my guys cremated and stored in a nice place. A bunch of guys will be placed with me or my wife; which ever first. I placed a few fellows in my parent's above ground niche at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Glad I dd. Get another fellow, don't delay. Never ever a replacement; just a new guy. Look forward to your new fellow post. Best to you and yours, thanks for taking care of our dogs. Caleb and Charlotte send you wishes.

BubbaJon,

I know your pain.

Over the years we have had a few shining lights that developed health issues and did not last as long as we expected. Take pride in knowing your family provided the best life for the time you had to share.

The last kind act an owner can do for their pet is do the right thing.
