I have always been intrigued with lever action rifles especially Winchesters, and though I like every model I believe my favorite is the model 1873. The long tell-tail receiver with the side plates is the most iconic and nostalgic of them all in my mind. I have owned a few originals in the past but nothing really to get excited about. I once had a saddle ring carbine in 44-40 but its condition prevented it from being a good shooter, so I eventually sold it. Since then, the ones I have owned have been Uberti reproductions. I recently purchased one of the new Winchester rifles made by Miroku and it is an exceptional rifle. The Uberti and new Winchester are very nice rifles and excellent shooters. I realize they are not original but for me they somewhat satisfy the desire to hold the memory of a part of the old west in my hands.
The same could be said of the 1873 single action army revolver as well.
