Back in December 2024 having bought all the other Christmas gifts I needed to buy I thought I would buy myself a new lever action rifle. I went to my local gun shop asked them what they knew about Rossi. They told me it was a quality gun. I didn’t care for the look or the finish on a model 92. On their advice I purchased a model 95 in 357 magnum.
When I received it, I was more than shocked to see how poor the quality of the wood and checkering were. Now I have been dealing with this gun shop for years and years I have purchasedat least 10 rifles and pistols from so I trusted them. After shooting the rifle, I found out it had four problems. I returned to the gun shop to ask him to send it back to Rossi for repair .I was informed that they don’t do that anymore, and I would have to handle it myself. At that point, they had lost a customer.
My rifle arrived back at Rossi in Miami on January 30 of 2025 today is June 5. I still don’t have my rifle back. I have called at least five times each time I was told it hadn’t made it into the shop yet. The last time I called about two weeks ago, I was told it was in the shop, but I could get no information on it state of repair return date nothing at all other than the fact that it was in the shop. So if you’re thinking about buying a Rossi, I wouldn’t.

Yes I unfortunately trusted the gun shop. I relied on their “expertise” having no experience with Rossi.
The very day I receive it back I will trade it towards a Ruglin. I have some experience with marlin levers have had many over the years. All great still have at least five that I can think of without unloading the safe. Also have one Henry which had the wrong front sight when I received it. They made good on it so quickly it made my head spin. I like Henry levers but that Ruglin is soooo pretty !

I have a bunch of Marlins too, and one Henry and all of them are wonderful. I was going on the advice of a gun store that I used to frequent and thought I’d try something different. Didn’t work out so well. The day they actually do return that Rossi to me it will be immediately traded in on a new Marlin.

I have a Rossi 92 Sold by Legacy 357 SS, I love it. the sights are not the greatest but shoot straight. AT T about Same time (15 yrs ago) I got a Marlin 1894 Cowboy 44 mag. Much Nicer, beautiful Bluing and octagon brl. But I shoot Lead for plinking, Jacketed flat nose for Clean out and serious work. The Rossi was perfect, the Marlin sighting was way different for Lead and Copper. I was told at the time the throat needed to be re-cut to fix this. Not Just low ( i expect that) but moved right to left the slower I ran the loads. SO sighted it for factory Jacketed, and Sold it. I STILL have the Rossi! Itys Best to get the Foreign Made arms From and Intermediate US Co. they Usually Check them out first and don't let the bad ones through, My Cimmaron (Italian made) SAA 357 Is Perfect as well. IN FACT I had a Rossi Chief special Snub Nose that was Excellent too, wish I still had it!

Yeah, most of the Miroku should be better Than Rossi and Winchester! (cept OLD Win) But Most of the Rossi's are good. Maybe I am Just Biased cuz I got mine 15 yrs ago. The Only Rossi's I didn't Like the Octigon barreled version In SS, the Matte on barrel didn't match AT ALL, (like WHO would release this for sale??) But other than That I have not heard any bad about the Rossi 92's till this thread.

Both my Rossi R92 and R95 are near perfect. The fit and finish are great and they both work and shoot as accurate as I am. R92 is the SS with the 1776 emblem in 357 mag. At 100 yds it keeps all shots inside a 4" circle which is more than acceptable for deer. That is with open sights. Put a scope on it and it now groups them at 2". My R95 is in 360 BuckHammer and I love it. With a scope on it shoots a 1.5" group at 100 yds.

I have had a disappointing experience with a Rossi rio grand 410 bore shotgun. Lots of problems sent it back after 6 months it came back and still had problems including the " letting in two jam"
The silver lining is I learned enough about Marlin 336 actions that I was able to fix it myself. Basically I got burned and I know it.
On the other hand I have 16 lever guns including 7 marlins only one rifle - Henry golden boy had no issues and it is the lowest cost rifle by far.
Not that Henry's are perfect but they have best customer service. I hope you have better luck next time

Thank you. The next time will be a new ruger marlin. I never make the same mistake twice.

I have a Taurus revolver with Titanium frame. Remember, before they were bringing their own label into the United States, many S&W branded pistols were actually made in Brazil by Taurus. The titanium framed, short barrel.41 mag revolver was on the cover of The Rifleman, the official journal of the National Rifle Association. I am a fan of the .41 mag. I have a 6in bbl S&W model 57 that I used for hunting pigs in Pennsylvania in the early '70s. I ordered the light weight Taurus .41 with 3in bbl a week after I saw the magazine from t (at that time) the best gun store in Delaware. It was two years and many phone calls to the shop and to the Corp Hq in Florida berfore I actually had the gun in my hands. It IS a handful. It has special soft rubber grips to help a little. I have fired about 125 rounds through the pistol over the years and only at paper. It looks good, works just fine--as long as I fire it right handed. In my left hand, the trigger moves slightly to the right and the gun jams. Can that be fixed? I dunno. Not worth it to me to try to find a smith who knows th the Taurus to the point that I would expect him to fix it properly. It is no Connecticutt-made S&W.

You stated that you had passed on the m92 because you didn't like the look/finish. But the m92 action is designed for pistol length cartridges. I believe that the model 95 action is designed for rifle length rounds like 30/30 and such. So that being said that may contribute to your issues with said rifle. I would say if you like the look of the m95 maybe a Marlin m1894 would have been a better choice. This action on the Marlin m1894 is also designed to work with pistol sized rounds. Just my $.02 worth opinion. Hope that Rossi gets your rifle worked out.(y)

Hi All,
Several years ago (in my 'wanting to be cool' stage) I purchased a Rossi double barrel external hammer 12 ga. shotgun. Within 20 rds the firing pins peened over where the were struck by the hammers. The LGS agreed to replace the firing pins, but told me the would peen over again because Rossi was using a soft metal. A few years later I hit my teeth on the buttstock while bringing up too shoot - put a dent in the wood. Now being afraid to break it more, it sat in the safe for years. I finally sold it on consignment.
After getting into Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS), and wanting a backup for my Marlin 94, I bought a used Rossi 92. This action was so rough that it required me to bring the rifle down to my leg to work the lever. I disassembled it. The inner workings were horrible, almost like Rossi copied the Winchester drawings but forgot the part about stoning off all the machine marks. I disassembled and polished/stoned the contact areas ~10 times before it was smooth enough to work the lever with the rifle still at my shoulder. Never smooth enough to use for CAS, but good enough for hunting.
My granson was going to buy a Taurus pistol. I did a little research on the Taurus owners website than advised him against it. He bought a S&W instead. :)
I plan on never buying any Rossi or Taurus firearms.
Carry on,
Leo
