Well I finally got my dinosaur killer!!! I picked up a Model 1895 45-90 made in 1905. I am sure some of you guys had seen this rifle advertised by Cabela's. Well I have been watching this rifle for the past 1.5 years. I was waiting for them to finally reduce their price. Well they finally did.... but only $100 bucks!! It was over priced to say the least. So I called the Shooting Gallery Manager of that store and said lets make a deal, you have had this rifle for almost two years. To my surprise he came back with a substantial discount. Done deal..!!!

It really is in great shape. Yes the wood has been refinished with a light sand job, and Bubba hit one of the screw heads. But it still has some of the color case hardening. The action is smooth and the bore is in great shape.

It also just happens that I have two boxes of 45-90 ammo that I picked up at a GS not to long ago.:D

Now I would like to say that this finally, completes my Marlin Collection. But I know better than that....LOL

An original old 1895 Marlin has one of the slickest feeling actions Marlin ever built! The .45-90 is very desirable caliber in those guns, and always a great purchase!
My dinosaur gun is a Marlin Ballard in .44-100, which is actually a .452" bore, but Marlin decided to call it a .44 for some reason? 3" long case!

Grail Gun. Please hire a professional photographer to document your next post in detail. A producer for the video will be great as well. Those old guns are really special. They reek of quality and history. I would sleep with it under the bed. Congratulations.

Thanks Guys: Yep I really have a passion for over 100 year old Marlins. This will be my ninth century mark + oldie!!! I try hard to stay away of duplicates in my collection but every now and then something pops up that I can't resist. That's how I ended up with two .32 Spcls, three 30-30's, two 32-40's and three 39A's.

Now somebody tell me what obscure caliber did Marlin make in modern lever actions that I might not know about. I know MM93 has all those old beautiful Ballards and I know I am definitely to broke to go that route...:p

Hi CJ57: I knew you were going to come up with something. Let me say that I have them all!!! EXCEPT a 45-85..???? That caliber is really obscure. Do you know what years or year it was made? I can't find much info on it. In fact all my travels to Gun Shows and out of the way Gun Shops I have never ever even seen one.
