I stumbled across this really sweet straight-gripped J-prefix 336RC in 35 Remington last week in a private sale:

The J-prefix indicates 1952, and elsewhere I read that '52 was the first year for "texan" style RCs in 35 Remington. This "texan" RC joins my J-prefix pistol gripped RC in 35 Remington, and a '62 "texan" in 35 Remington.

I put a dab of almond-colored appliance touch-up paint on the brass bead in the front sight because I cannot see shiny metallic beads anymore, and fired it offhand Sunday afternoon with Remington 200 gr CoreLokts. Four of five rounds made dust puffs from the same rock sticking in the 100 yd berm. Too bad I don't hunt anymore. Can't wait to try my cast handloads.

Had to share, thanks!

Great old rifle. Remember that that has Ballard rifling (pre 56) and If you have not tried the Hornady LE ammo, you should. Amazing accuracy in my 54 Texan.

Very beautiful rifle!! How come everybody else finds these great deals on a 35 and I never even get close! Lol oh well I guess my time will come, eventually! Man, that rifle looks nice!

I did find one a couple weeks ago for $275, the butt stock had a long crack, drilled a 1/2" hole in the back, filled it with devcon liquid steel or whatever this is called, sanded, re stained. Let's just say that stock won't crack again and the crack is almost invisible.

Because it's not mint, it became my hunting rifle of choice.

Flat top, stop looking and one will fall in to your hands soon after, at least that works for me every single time. :marchmellow:

Hey guys, I come across a lot of nice rifles...problem is they command nice prices, and for what I want to do with this rifle, I am not going to invest the big bucks. What I am looking for is a 35 Rem that is in such bad shape that the buyer will pay me to take it! Not really, but, you know what I mean....a rifle that would be an embarrassment for anyone to show up at a gun buy back program with! I have been working on some involved modifications for the Marlin fore end assembly and I need a "donor" rifle to work with...............

I guess it's time for me to get "Marlinized" again and what better way than to comment on a .336 in .35 Remington.
I purchased a Texan in .35 a few years back from my neighbor like I needed ANOTHER gun. I carried the rifle a few years shooting the Hornady LE's that came with it with good results. The LE's by the way ,shoot EXTREMLY accurate in my rifle but the time has come for me to do some reloading. I loaded some 200 Grain Remington Core-Lokts over the weekend and the accuracy is there.
I own a ton of rifles from Pre-War Model 70's to Ruger #1"s but I'm going to carry this 336 for awhile. Light, accurate AND It puts the deer down.

Not all Texans had the square lever--there were some variations over the years. Your wife has a Texan.
