Hi,
I've just agreed to buy a Marlin 39A, marked as a '39 Century Ltd.' and I'm trying to date it. (I've attached a photo, but I don't get the actual rifle for a week or so yet).
I've been told it was made in the '70s, and it doesn't have a crossbolt safety, but the serial no. is 36125.
If I take the first two digits of the serial no. as '36' I can't find anything, but if I assume there is an 'implied' '0' at the beginning that would make it 1997 manufactured? ....but if it's '97 why no safety?
All comments and help appreciated.
