Hi Folks -I'm considering buying a CVA Wolf - but I've read some reports of safety issues with the original Wolf. How can I tell if this rifle is the old (or new) model?
General observations on the CVA Wolf would also be appreciated, including winning load combinations - especially with Barnes ml bullets.
Thanks!

I have an OLD model. The new one will be a Wolf Magnum I believe.

I have the original scope mounts with mine. They were supposedly a source of poor grouping on the rifles. From everything I've read and watched, if I buy the new design of mount or replace with open sights, I'll be able to hold 2" or better groups at 100 yards. I guess I need to try that before I give up on it and call it junk. As far as going bang? Hasn't misfired yet.

When the scope stays put, I can put 2 shots 1/2" from each other, but the third shot might be 8" away becuase the scope moves.

Anywho, good luck! I've heard nothing but good things about the CVA Optima.

Not sure if the OP is still interested but if nothing else for the sake of future folks who might search the topic I normally shoot an 1895 GG in 45-70. 405 gr. with scope and all it is hefty. The Wolf Magnum is super well balanced and by comparison light. I have shot 250 and 300gr out of it with two pellet loads= 100. Can easily go bigger395-405 gr and 150, if I want. I have probably shot it 20 times. No scope problems. A very nice rifle at a reasonable price.

I have the CVA Optima, I belive it is one step up from the Wolf. I cannot say enough "good" about the Optima. I shoot 150gr loose powder Pyrodex, Titanium Powerbelts in 270gr? and this gun will touch holes at 50 yards all day long, and dang near do the same at 100yards, it's an amazing shooter. One FINE gun, pleasure to own, carry, and shoot. I'd buy another tomorrow. With this setup, I can drop a Whitetail IN HIS TRACKS with a dead on shoulder shot, my last 7 Whitetail never moved their feet. It hits so hard that it cracks the spinal cord on impact. LOVE the CVA, its one of my all favorite firearms that I own. I put a Nikon Prostaff BDC 3x9x50 on it when I bought it new straight from CVA. They run some DEALS on their own web site from time to time, better than I could buy locally or anywhere.
