Got one in North Carolina. Seeing it was like saying hello again to the four young men from my high school whose names are on the wall. Always wondered why I came back and they didn't. Not ashamed to say I had to stop typing and wipe my eyes before I got this finished. Some things are never finished.
Welcome Home yellowthroat.

Welcome Home to all who served.

I have never been to the Wall in DC. I'm not sure if I want to. They brought the Traveling Wall to our village. It tore my guts up just to look at it. Percentage wise this little village lost the most men to Vietnam War. It is a different feeling when you are reading the names of people you knew.

The names of uncles and cousins on the memorials from WII don't have the same feeling to me. I wasn't
born until 1950, so even though they were family I never knew them. It's hard to explain and is why I can't watch movies like We were Soldiers & Black Hawk Down. To me, the question is "for what?"

A good friend and classmate 1st LT Noah Kraft, USMC, was the first causality of our class in Vietnam. He was flying a H-34 helicopter full of Marines into a drop zone when they took a direct mortar hit after touching down. Noah was the only Jewish guy in our unit and a really nice person! There wasn't anybody in the class who didn't like him. The first time I got to Washington D.C I went to the wall to locate Noah's name. That day remains in my memory as a day when I wept; and released a lot of anguish over several squadron mates lost in Nam. It still moves me when I see pictures of the wall! Probably always will!

I stand corrected, I looked on Fb and found this info from 4 days ago...
I and the wife visited this site yesterday, I will say, I think something
fantastic is happening here in Perryville Mo. Everything that is complete is top of the line. The wall is complete, I judge 90% of the layout is complete and it is fantastic. Met Mr. Edelman, a gentleman in every sense, and a true American hero, relative to his involvement in this venture. He also served, in case you wonder. We were very very impressed with all that we saw. It will be dedicated next spring, I hope the wife and I find ourselves as part of that throng.
