Well, my Rossi / Puma M92 works. It has not seen a lot of rounds really ( ~50 ), and mine feeds .454 Casull and .45 Colt regardless, as long as they are in spec.

I just see the .45-70 start where the .454 ends.

Thanks for all the feedback guys .... I must say i am not hearing too many really negative comments here ... I can pick up a 20 inch .454 Rossi Lever rifle for Au$575.00 which is really very cheap for a new rifle in this class. I am REALLY battling hard not to go in and buy it! I have one last option ... i know of a nice older 45 70 Marlin at a tame gun dealer close buy that I am going to try to barter with ... I have a nice accurate Stevens .22 Mag i dont use anymore and I want to see if he will trade it in on the Marlin... if not, Im gonna grab the Rossi ! After all.... it was my Birthday yesterday and i never really bought myself a "to dad...from dad" present !!
From another aussie - go the 45-70! After all, you did post this in a marlin 45-70 forum. I've got an older model Marlin 45-70 (1895SS) and it's one slick beast. Only just starting to put rounds through it but I'm sure looking forward to hammering some pigs and goats with it. Will feel confidant in all situations against any animal, I know the 454 isn't a slouch - well it is in fact when compared to full house 45-70. And old Marlins are very well made rifles.

Although I have a mate here with a 357 rossi and it's a nice gun - very light and handy (as would a 454 be) so either way you're a winner!

Hey 1640,

I've got a Guide Gun in .45-70 which I bought in 2010. It don't hurt having both, eh mate ? :)

I like the Rossi for its light weight and high capacity, and still being able to dish out. I wish sometimes Marlin would have made a .454 Casull on the 1894 frame.

no sure doesn't when it comes to levers! And I gather the 454 rossis are on special now so maybe the rossi now and a 45-70 later - i'm often seeing 1895SS in used guns for $800, they hang around for ages so i'm sure they'd take offers. Or guide guns come up occasionally for a bit more too. Before you 'mericans pass out from these prices - let me just say welcome to our world!

moonbat60 - do you think the 1894 would take 454 casual pressures? I've heard they're not the strongest and 454 is very hot

I like the 454.Its got a lot to offer in a little package.
Id like to get one of them NE arms cowboy single shot 45 colt that has the cresent stock and short bar.
And have it rebored to 454,for the same reason. To be able to shoot both the 45 colt, and 454.

1894 can NOT take 454 pressure
No doubt, too much pressure... ummm, hehehe maybe we can look forward to Remlin making a brand new action/platform for rounds like the 454, 480, 460 S&W, 500S&W :flute: :ahhhhh: :flute: :hmmmm: :shot::shot:, seeing how they are now Levergun makers, or something like that :ahhhhh:kinda/sorta ummm, uhhmmm :hmmmm:

I know full well that the 1894 frame would not be able to take .454 Casull pressures, but that would have been one lever rifle that I would have liked..................

Regarding Marlins, the only one that probably would have come close would have been the .450 Marlin setup.

A .454 double gun side by side would have also been up my alley, something like those old elephant guns, but for one of those I'd like to have a 16" or 18" barrel.

The 1894 will not take the pressures of a 454 Casull.

A 18" or 20" T/C Encore/Prohunter in 454 Casull would be fun it could also handle 460 S&W.

I understand... Rugers are nice rifles but you are limiting yourself when you take a #1 over a T/C...

I am a T/C Contender carbine fan and have a thing for being able to switch barrels I have 4 frames and 10 carbine barrels I do not own a Encore/Prohunter yet but have been thinking of expanding into that world as well been looking at 18" or 20" 460 S&W & a 21' - 22" 376 Steyr.

If you went Ruger you are stuck with only ever being able to shoot this same round if you went Encore/Prohunter the only limits are when you get up to the Rem Ultra Mag case diameters.

Moki,

I know about the T/C guns versatility regarding calibers. I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited about that feature..............

The TC would be my pick for a wildcat caliber though.

I was up in the mtns here in British Columbia with my wife and 5 year old son yesturday took my 454 Casull M92 I shot a few of my 300gr XTP-mag and 360gr CAst Performance loads into stumps/logs.

Even shot some 280gr Beartooth WFNGC 45 Colts everything worked perfectly total fun easy packing rifle.
