I saw a 308MX the other day that I’m thinking about buying. I don’t need it because I have a 336W and 308 Win BAR but I have an irrational desire to buy it anyway. The gun is used but it has never been fired. Supposedly a woman bought the gun as a birthday present for her husband but he had ordered one a few days earlier. I suspect it had more to do with someone not wanting a gun chambered for the 308MX. The gun still has the red packing grease in the action and the barrel appears to be pristine so I think it really has not been fired. The only thing wrong with the rifle that I observed is that the blueing near the front sight is partially worn from the gun standing in a gun rack for an extended time.

What do y’all think the gun is worth?

So if I can order a NIB 308MX for $499.99 then what is a new never shot 308MX with wear on the barrel blueing worth? Is it worth $485 or something less?

Hey MD,

She Says This, He Says That. It's a Used gun,, and Sounds like it was riding in a Truck Rack that wore the Blueing Off.

Not Been Fired,, Maybe, Maybe Not.. Who Know's. Sound's like they want to sell it as being unfired,, so they don't want the purchaser to fire it,, before they buy it.

You need to run some ammo through it,, to see how it Feed's,, and Shoots.

Figure the cost of rebluing the area, that will start rusting,, if unattended.

Subtract all the attention and time to do all of this,, and then know that you are paying for a used gun. It sure wouldn't be worth close to Brand New Price to me. If I buy something used,, then I want a used gun price,, but in Pristine condition,, but that's just me,, and I look for a bargain,, not a bunch of Hype.

Good Luck,
Joe :)

I think $485 is a little high, or at least in my neck of the woods. It may have never been fired but once it left the gun shop it is now considered a used rifle. I would think $460 OTD would be closer to a good deal especially with bluing missin' already.

$450 is plenty. The gun is a potential freak caliber. Bluing wear? Are you going to use it or look at it? One of the most enjoyed rifles I have is a 1900 vintage 1895 winchester. It is mostly white.

yes i dont understand the blueing wear and the handling marks on a never fired gun. :D
It is from the barrel rubbing against the top rail that it leans against in the display rack.
