Ok, I put one of these in layway the other day, I have a 25N and have been wanting a .22Mag. for some time and I stumbled across this one. Not pristine or anything but if its as accurate as the N it will be fine. My question is when was it manufactured? Sorry, I looked through some of the dating stuff but I guess I'm a little blind or dumb. The sn# starts 0542, its got the plain birch stock. Thanks in advance guys.

Mauser, I could be wrong on the stock, but it was real light in color so I just thought it may something else. I looked and checked and just got tired, so I thought I would ask you fellas. Thanks P-bass.
Hey what about a 25N with a 05528 sn#, an idea on that? I know kind of needed ain't I?
These were all made in the same time period right?

1995 for both. I thought the MNs had checkered birch or "hardwood" stocks. Don't think they had walnut. Mine's from 1996 and is press checkered. 25MNs were made from around '88 until about 2003 IIRC. Many similar units were made with different numbers. Some made with walnut stocks. There were 25Ms too with the plain stock and possibly no sling studs? There are differences in the 25MN and the 25M and they're mostly "fancy adds". I love my 25MN.

BTW, I'd like to have a nice checkered 25N .22LR to match.

The "N" stands for "New", the 25MN replaced the 25M around '88 or '89. The main difference is that the safety positions were reversed. A 25M should have sling studs, but there were special orders from some big chain stores that resulted in variants with different trigger guards, stock styles, etc, and some may have been sans sling studs. The same year, the 25 was replaced by the 25N. On the 22LR version (25N) the magazine was redesigned and the takedown screw was moved from the rear hole of the magazine plate to the stock forend in front of the mag plate as well as the reversed safety position with the model change.
The Model 20 is similar to the 25 but with a non-Monte Carlo (straight comb) stock and no sling swivels.

Good input Guys. My 925M probably has the same birch stock as above. They are suppose to be quite durable. Use to have a Model 783 in 22 mag. What a nice piece of black walnut on that one. Was stolen so I replaced it with the 925M. Not as fancy but the T-900 trigger is better. The 925M was a good buy at $170 new. Got it at Dicks maybe 9 years ago. Likes CCis with 40 grainers.

25MN was essentially an 882 with hardwood (birch) stock as opposed to the walnut stock of the 882. The 25, 25M, 25N, 25MN were carryovers from the Glenfield era, budget versions of the walnut stocked Marlins. You'll notice the 25 series did not have the Marlin bullseye, either. I have a 25 from '87. Those plain Jane stocks may have some very nice grain hidden under that donut glaze Marshield finish.

Nice looking 22's there Pereira! Wish I still had my ole' M69. Rough around the edges, but she was a shooter! How many does the 25N hold in the magazine? I Like It!

1995 the first two numbers of the serial minus 100 gives you your date :)

While I'm at it, lets make a list...
782
25M
882
25MN
925M
982VS 982VS-cf (Carbon Fiber stock)
XT-22M series

Difference between 'em?
Pretty much just the stocks and the triggers. The aforementioned change in the safety...
I forget at what point they upgraded the extractor...early on in the first four listed, iirc.
And halfway thru the 25MN series, they added a second stock/action screw...
All use the same mag. As do the .17HMR versions...everything's the same but the barrel.

So if one feels froggy, one can purchase an XT22M trigger set and install it into a 25MN...
which I would do, but its just fine the way it is now...after a lotta work...lol

If you want a nice wood stock, go to the Boyd's Riflestocks website...

Just a heads up note if I missed it in other posts -- the Marlin "Bullseye" is gun guy shorthand for meaning a Walnut stock only -- not on birch (Glenfield).
Here's a photo of my 925M with a 782 stock attached. I tried hard to love the orange super plain grain hardwood but a divorce was needed.
By the by, would also fit a 25MN.

I got a Marlin 25mn 22 mag, I bought it from a friend about 10 years ago to use Coyote hunting! I bought a few more 7 round clips from another friend and was planning on putting a scope on it! Still today no scope yet and its setting in Safe! Nice Rifle I'll get her out eventually!!!!
