Hi, Does any one use the 2400 powder with a 300 Gran bullet for their 45-70.

If so, what was it for accuracy?

Thanks

Seems fast for 45-70.
Bet the staring pressure would be pretty high.
Also I doubt it would even give 50% fill on teh case.

Sierra has it listed for the trapdoor, 1886 Winchester, & Marlin...

Starting for the Trapdoor is 24.5Grns with a maximum of 29.7
for the Marlin it starts at 36.9 and with a max of 49.5
Before someone blows up their Marlin and gets seriously injured, can the inaccurate max load of 49.5 grains of 2400 be changed to the correct MAX load of 40.9 grains?

I have a Lyman 46th Edition that has a lot of listings for 2400 in the 45-70, for several different bullets (of the day). Most are for cast bullets, but a few listed for the lighter jacketed bullets.

I don't own, or load for, the 45-70 so I have no personal hands on experience myself. My personal experience in loading rifle cartridges is limited to 30-30 win, of which 95% consist of cast bullets with A2400, AA#7 or Unique.

No, I like blowing up and loosing an eye and teeth. lol.

MY Bad.
I actually mistook Viht N120 as the max for 2400.

49grns of 2400 would be a big disaster.
Nice catch Bassetman.
I guessed that's what happened. That fast of a burning powder makes me nervous enough in large quantity, that's why I looked it up. Just didn't want anyone hurt. I wish you good and safe shooting.

It bothers me that they list the 1895 Marlin with the Ruger #1 which is supposed to be in a league of its own. If memory serves me right, I am currently using Benchmark with the 300 HPFN but I do have a big jug of 2400 I need to use for something so maybe I will try low and slow and work my way up later in the year.

Use 27.7 grains of 2400 with Berry’s 350gr plated bullet. 3 five shot strings over chronograph, averaging 1537fps. Get approximately 2- 2 1/2 inch groups at 100. Able to ring steel at 309, 400 and 500 yards, size of deer chest ( 20 x 30 inch).

Nice,
I have some of that Berry’s plated bullets.

Want to push the 300grn Sierra bullet around 1900 with the 2400 powder. Going to use that combo for elk this year. I know the 45-70 is a 200 yard gun maybe 250. Just wanted to get a feel for what people are getting for accuracy.
