Welcome from SW Ohio.

You've got a fine old Marlin there. Only 5 digits in the serial number?

Suggest you go to this website. https://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php

Depending upon the two digits you have covered up, it looks to have been made about 1890. Maybe a year or so older or younger, depending upon those two hidden numbers.

Enjoy!

Sounds like you have an 1889 model that was rebarreled sometime in it's life with a model 1894 barrel in 25-20. I say this because the '89 was introduced in 32-20, 38-40 and 44-40. Apparently the 25-20 was added later, as Brophy mentions that 34 were produced in that model. It's unlikely you have one of these, but if you do, WOW!, you got yourself a rare rifle. Even as it stands, an '89 is a pretty neat rifle, and the 25-20 a great small game round. Perhaps my favorite in my early 1894 rifles. Would be about ideal for European hare, fox, maybe capercallie? That would be neat! Congrats on having a great little rifle.

Congratulations one nice rifle.
The 25-20 is a really excellent cartridge.
I certainly love the two I own in that caliber, and shoot them frequently.

Welcome to Marlin Owners from NE Indiana USA.
As a fellow 25-20 owner is there any ammo for it in Europe? I am set for mine but I see very little around here.

Your serial number indicates a gun probably made in 1890. As an early 1889 I'd guess it was rebarreled to the .25-20 Marlin caliber also. Can you post the caliber marking on the top barrel flat and also the complete rollstamp info as it is on the barrel? If it was mine I'd consider checking the factory data for your gun. If it by chance is indeed one of the few 1889's factory barreled in .25-20 M. it's a very rare gun, and much more valuable!
