Well, I took my newly mounted XS Scout scope rail, QR rings, and 2.5x scope to the range today and got it sighted in pretty quickly (6 bullets, yes!). I played around with it for a while and decided to shoot through my aperture sights just for fun and to show off the flexibility of my main man rifle to my buddy.
What I got really surprised me. Instead of hitting at POA, they were hitting 3" left and nearly 5" high at fifty yards! I was dumbfounded. I checked and nothing had worked loose or been bent or anything like that.
Here's my not-so-scientific wild arse guess: I think that because the rail mounts to both the receiver AND barrel, it acts as a stiffener and plays havoc with the barrel's harmonics and completely changes the point of impact!
The ammo I was using was Rem CL HP 170 grain and the aperture sights were sighted in with Rem CL 170 grain FN which should not be that different.
What do you guys think? ???
