Welcome from Goldthwaite, TX! Thanks for joining us! I used a cotton pad (like the ladies use for removing makeup) and acetone to take some polyurethane off a rifle where someone had done the same thing! Just go slow and easy and I think it'll work for you -- don't forget that the acetone is very flammable. Hope that helps! John
Like has been suggested, cotton ball or Q,- tip, dip in acetone, don't let it drip or run, go slow.
Welcome to the Marlin Owner's Forum, from Louisiana.

Or better yet, remove the stock before you start using the acetone (or whatever you decided to use). I should have mentioned that in my first reply to your question! John
If they did that varnish poorly, they probably never cleaned the gun thoroughly either....EVER.
I'd disassemble scrub all metal with acetone or EdsRed... May as well do a gentle and easy refinish on the wood too.
Lube appropriately and reassemble.
3 evenings worth of work and you'll have a real prize!!!
In addition to the varnish. I have a feed problem. It seems the cartridge carrier is not aligned well or may be worn. Where do I get .22 bullets that are together just not loaded? (Sorry I am not sure of the correct word)
