Hello, I have a mod. 81 that was varnish and they must not have removed the stock to varnish. How do I get varnish off the metal?

Thank you

Welcome from Goldthwaite, TX! Thanks for joining us! I used a cotton pad (like the ladies use for removing makeup) and acetone to take some polyurethane off a rifle where someone had done the same thing! Just go slow and easy and I think it'll work for you -- don't forget that the acetone is very flammable. Hope that helps! John

Like has been suggested, cotton ball or Q,- tip, dip in acetone, don't let it drip or run, go slow.

Re: Removing varnish from metal

The only thing I would add is to use some painters tape to mask the wooden parts so you don't remove the finish from it.
