gave my bud a few months ago a Remy 522 Viper, because I did not want it. I told him to find me an older good tube fed, bolt gun. So he calls me up, and says: "Come see what my sister found in the desert a few months ago".

The Model 72 was made between 1938 and 1949

It is so rusty and caked over with crap. Flash floods had taken its toll.
I scraped enough off the barrel, to read some of it. Filled it up, and sprayed it down with Kroil.
Got the stock off, its swelled out an 1/8 inch all over.

When I get the bolt unseized, and can take it a part, Ill know if I what to rebuild it.

Dang I love a challenge.

Reminds me of what my mechanic told me when I ask him what all my truck needed.

"All you need to do is remove the radiator cap,hold it as high as you can above your head and drive a new truck under it,put the cap back on and you'r good to go".

It wasnt a trade. I gave him the viper for a nephew who is shooting comp, this only rust bucket was just something that happened along.
I did tell him, that I got the better end of the trade, his nephew did not agree

I already have torn it down, got a nice shiney bore. Bleached the stock and have it drying. I'll order up the parts I need, and in a month it will be ready to plink away with.

Hope it works out for ya. Just did the same thing with a completely froze up and rusted M1 carbine that was given to me. Bought a gallon of PB Blaster and went to work. It was far from perfect when done, but it sure was rewarding. And you can't beat the price. One thing that really helped with the parts that were small enough was to empty the media in my brass tumbler then fill it with the oil and let it shake for a while. Works wonders. I have one in much better condition. Bought it at a pawn shop nearly 30 yrs ago. It is ol' reliable...very accurate...my squirrel and barn pigeon gun. Good luck with yours.

Most likely dithced,I'd say.

I did lose one in the deep woods when I was 14-15.I was squirrel/ginseng hunting in a part of the mountain I was not real familure with when I stumbled across a nice patch of ginseng about an hour before dark.
I leaned my old Remington 514 one shooter against a big hickory and crawled around on my hands and knees digging up roots till it got to dark to see good.
There must have been at least 100 big hickories in that hollow.It took me three trips over a week &1/2
to relocate my rifle.But I also cleaned all the then valuable root out of that hollow.


I can see how it could happen.

Due to the amount of scale on it. I washed it in oil first, then sanded the scale down. This weekend it will get sandblasted, then crowned, then duracoated.

I have a Win. M69 and it is a GREAT rifle---very accurate. The only difference is the M69 is clip fed.
