Just out of curiosity what is your favorite variation of the 336 and why?

I think mine would have to be a plain old 336ss because to me a 336 is the ideal short range hunting gun and a great brush gun. Stainless is more durable than blued steel, I like the walnut stock, and the overall length is short enough to be handy yet long enough to still be good and accurate.

First would be a 336 A-DL. Long 24" barrel, half mag, deluxe wood.

Next, 336 SC. Shorter barrel, half mag. A compromise between the "A" and the carbine.

For a newer 336, I like the AS model. I like the forend cap better than the barrel bands.

336 A, 336SC, 336XLR in 35 rem. and a 375. I like the 3/4 tube on the rifle with the end cap rather than barrel bands. I also like them to have Ballard rifling. Too bad they didn't have Ballard in the 375.

If I had to choose, I would say my '61 SC because it just feels different ... as in handier. That choice would be followed by my 336A and then the 336C.

The absolute best 336's ever made were the 1958-1962 336A-DL's with their well figured, beautifully styled Bishop Monte Carlo stocks with raised cheek piece.
Next favorite models in line are the 338MX and the 336ER

My 1962 30-30 from Sears, because it was my first.
Then I like the 336 A-DL, and the 336 SC.
Take a look at Rachethead's 336ADL in 32 Special, and tell me you don't like it.

I would say the 336A-35R 24" barrel but are hard to find. But I believe it reincarnated in the from of the 336XLR-35R newer and better and I have one.

My favorite is the 336SC. Love the look and feel of 2/3 magazined lever action. Got three, 1 in 30-30 and 2 in .32 Win Special. Shot my first deer, a
huge 7pt buck chasing two doe. One well placed shot from a Winchester Model 94 in .32 Special was all it took. I was 12 years old and had borrowed the Model 94 from my Uncle Jack to use that rainy day 47 years ago. He sold it to me upon my return from overseas in Nov 1973. My 336W is special to me (pun intended) because I won it on a gun club raffle ticket! Here's my 4 .32 Win Specials.
