Here is what I'm planning to shoot:
I'm waiting for my brass to arrive. I bought some off of a guy, and I sent him the money and he hasn't sent me the brass. I'm wondering if I got ripped off. What I am going to do is develop a load using AA2520, and also Varget. I have H4895, and IMR-4064, and IMR-3031, but for the 300, I'm going to concentrate on 2520 and Varget. The one that gives me the best velocity/accuracy combination is the one that will get the call.
I'll share with you what I got from Johan at Accurate concerning AA2520. This is where I'm starting.
Caliber: 300 Savage.
Barrel length: 22”
Powder: Accurate -- 2520®
Bullet weight: 150 grains
Start load: 39.5 grains (2425 – 2525 Fps)
Maximum load: 43.0 grains (2775 – 2850 Fps) LD ca 105%.
Bullet weight: 165-168 grains
Start load: 37.8 grains (2300 – 2400 Fps)
Maximum load: 42.0grains (2600 - 2700 Fps)
With Varget and the 150 gr bullet I'm going to start at 39.0 gr and work up to 42.0. That is the max given in my Lyman load manual. I think there will be more compression with Varget due to the extruded grains.
As I work up the loads, I'm going to shoot each through the Chrony, looking for velocity and accuracy. I'm using Winchester brass and Remington 9 1/2 primers.
PS. I really think the guy ripped me. I'm giving him till early next week to cough up the brass, then I'll post the information on here so you can avoid doing business with him.
