What brand of ammo have you found to be most accurate in the old ballard style pre-microgroove guns? All my guns are pre-WWII, many of them made before you could use High Speed shells in Marlins. I have found Aguila subsonic hollow point to be very accurate, with Remington target, subsonic HP, and Aguila solid target ammo to be close behind. CCI target seems ok, but the Aguila beats it in my old 39s. What non-highspeed ammo shoots the tightest group for you guys? Just curious.

If you are a Rockefeller, the Lapua stuff ain't bad at all. My ballard rifled 39-A likes their Polar Biathlon. A little spendy at 16 bucks per 100 box though. I've had some pretty good results with CCI's 40 gr subsonic hollow point- much better at 5 and change per 100 box.

I've been shooting PMC Target in my old Marlin rimfires. Bought 10,000 rounds of it when I was shooting competition, and I started using it in my Marlin levers. It shoots better than I can hold.
