Velocities from 16" 1895

I am looking at doing an 1895gs with a 16.25" barrel. What do you fellas think the velocities will be like compared to the 18.5"? A good shooting, fairly mild Piledriver Jr load goes about 1650fps out of my 18.5", do you think I'll stay above 1500fps?

I remember reading that you lose about 25 fps/inch.

I think this is subject to other factors and could vary. At any rate, I think the velocity loss will be insignificant.

You are not shooting max loads you can always pump it up a little faster to compensate if you want to.

25 fps per inch sounds right on to me.

That 18 1/4 1895 looks like a very handy rifle.

A pile driver jr at 1650 would work well I think, start running them about 1550-1600 and they just start bouncing off stuff. :)

That would be one handy quick pointing rifle you are making.

Funny, I would love to come in around 1650, plenty good for large furry things. Actually, I won't take much credit for building it, Brockman has done most of the work. Should have it in a week or so. Can't wait! Short but sweet......HEHE

You will find NO significant difference what so ever. Load and shoot it the same as your 18.5" barrelled 45-70. Your game will not notice any difference.
