I've been dry firing my 444SS with the snap caps. Now that I can focus on the trigger pull without recoil I've discovered my trigger is really fouled up. The trigger literally rattles around loose then there is firm resistance and it fires with no perceivable movement.

I ran a few searches but "trigger adjustment" is too broad and I can't find a good thread on adjusting the trigger on the 336/444 family of rifles.

Can someone point me to a good resource?

The moving around loose is normal and is sometimes called the "Marlin flop" but the instant release after take up is not... It sounds like some one modified it for a really light trigger pull. You may have to replace the sear and or hammer...
