Thank you for posting this. While not close I sometimes get in this area and will stop and pay my respect.

I grew up just minutes from this spot. So I passed by here all the time but, It's been years since I actually read the stone.
I've often wondered driving by what this person's story is. What did he die from, was he wounded or sick?
There is a house just a couple of miles down this road that was a tavern at the time of the Revolution and the War of 1812. Was he headed there? Did he have his last meal there?

There are likely many memorials like this, often hidden away in family cemeteries, that we know little of. Sad, but the nature of this vast nation. Our Unknown Soldiers and Sailors memorialized at Arlington are but a national representation of our honor to those countless lost but "Known only to God". Each should be treated with reverence.
