I recently purchased a NIB Marlin 1894 in .44 mag with a 24" octagon barrel that I was told was discontinued in 2001 when Marlin went to the 20" barrel. I love the Ballard rifling but my question is the twist rate. Is this quicker than the old 1-38" or did they stay with the old rate?

Thanks,

I would put a dot of fingernail polish on my cleaning rod, up by the handle, and see if it makes a complete revolution in the 24".

Mine has a 20" barrel and ballard rifling and is 1 in 38". BM
