over the years, restoring stocks to their glory is something to be proud of,,, no matter how it turns out.. But I have come across( by trial ) a way to get the finish to really shine... emery clothe... final wood sanding done with emery clothe will give it that baby-butt smooth texture and the shine in the final coat.. I use 800 grit on the final sand before the last coat of finish.. almost better than brand new, but with self satisfaction.

Good tip.

Prior to my final sanding with said 800 I most often give the stock a polish with 000 or 0000 steel wool between coast of boiled linseed oil.

The 800 treatment gives it a final polish that is hard to beat.
