32 here and plenty of dark. Supposed to be sunny but not warming up at all. Bracing for 2 days of Snow/Rain/Sleet/Snow/Rain. Maybe we will get some thunder snow so the weathermen can elate themselves.

11 in Texas? Gonna be few busted water pipes I bet.

When Casino's opened in CT back in the Dark Ages, I found the slots mildly amusing, cuz they paid out cash............Now, they spit out a receipt tape that you need to go cash in...................What fun is that?........I'm not even sure they go " Ka ching Ka ching" anymore............

Anyway, "people watching" is amusing too, so I'll probably have an interesting day...............

I know a lot of people that tell me how they win BIG at the Casino's!.............but none of them has ever bought me a Beer!

6* now. Snowed 13 out of 30 days on this date. We have not had a snow storm for some time now. Not that we are lacking but at least it has been easy to keep up and do some digging out to get ahead. Feb is often a funny month with swings of 40 above to 20 below. Not going to have the Eel Pout Festival I guess. It was an ice fishing tournament and blow out. I guess they feel that it was causing too much pollution to Leech Lake. When they had it, I had seen some years at 20 below and other when they could barely get on and off the ice for slush due to warm weather.

We have Casinos all over now run by the Ojibwe. They can do so on their reservations. Spell checker told me I was not spelling it the way they do. They pay out in cash but I have not seen anyone retire on their winnings. The mathematics is against it. They basically offer a form of recreation where you pay a dollar and get .65 back. If you gamble the winnings you then get .42 back from the original dollar. That what you get in the long term. Always said I don't gamble and neither do the Ojibwe.

11 in Texas? Gonna be few busted water pipes I bet.

My grand daughters apartment complex in Odessa, Texas had the main feed line busted in 2 places yesterday ... got a text a while ago they are still out of water. They don't get cold blasts like this down there very often.

We definitely have to prepare here ... light bulb and heater on a thermostat in the well house - heater on a thermostat in the little room attached to the garage ( water pipe there for a sink that was removed years ago before we moved in) - check panel rays in the little house on the back of the property ( old hand house ) - check the heater and light bulbs in the brooder house ( old chicken brooder house that has been converted to a small green house ) - and added chores check the light bulbs in the igloo dog house and the igloo cat house, the heat lamp in the large green house ( which is not used but makes a great place for a temporary shelter from the wind and moisture for the "puppy" - 95 lb. 1 1/2 year old doberdane .. )

again I HATE COLD WEATHER ...

16° degrees right now ... a little breeze ... no moisture ...

Just endure until it passes ...

We bury our pipes pretty deep and now cover them with insulation before filling in. On a year like now we had a relatively early snow which is surprisingly an insulator. There was one year of cold but little snow when many houses in town had frozen pipes years ago. With the right pipes welders hook up their welders and actually thaw pipes. They have to be conductive pipes. Grouse bury themselves in the snow to keep warm. After a warm day the snow now has a crust which is worse than the soft stuff. Guy I worked with talked about how he built an insulated dog house for his treasured Chesapeake Bay Retriever. It was about 20 below out and he looked out the window and it was laying on the roof. Sled dogs will do that. I did have a GSP that slept with his head out of the dog house and got frost bit ears though. Dogs now get to stay in the house. It really does not get cold until about -10*. 20* days feel almost like spring and water starts running on the highways.

When I worked for the City we had complaints about slick intersections. I would receive the calls, mostly about why aren't they salt sanded. Public Works supervisor told me that at about 0 or a little warmer the salt sand quits working and actually polishes the ice. Due to pressures on the council people he had to spread the stuff anyway to make the complainers happy. There were as lot of people you could not explain things to as they knew everything. Some were on the council.

UPDATE:
Well, ...My foray into the Casino this morning was interesting and inexpensive.................
Because I have a "Wampum" card, the huge buffet breakfast for two was $9.99.............And the show was free............The Band my friend follows put on a good 2 hr show of vintage Rock an Roll, and Band's dancers/chorus were easy to watch, at least for me.....:proud:.........we got all the 2nd hand smoke we could handle, and were home by 1445..........

The people watching was also interesting....:flute:.......had a few nice conversations with others of my age and kind, and the four of us had an enjoyable time...........

Did I drop any $$ in the slots or on the tables?...............NO!...............None of us did..........

Will I go back soon?.............probably not anytime soon, unless my friend invites us, but we had a very good time........

To stay on subject, the weather people are saying rain and sleet for the morning for CT..........I plan to be at the Range, either way........

You all have a relaxing evening.........
