Thinking of upgrading from a Garmin 60csx to a 62s any opinions??

Hi guys, I recently read that Garmin will no longer have updates for the 60csx. Is this a reason to upgrade? I have a 60csx with the 24K topo SD card. I really don't have any major complaints about it. I use it often for hiking in the Catskills in NYS and soon to be Florida. Im still researching the 62s I just like to have the most up to date gear. Right now it looks like I could sell my gps for close to the price. Anyone have any experience with the 62s?

The only thing Garmin won't update for now probably is the firmware and if your 60CSx is working O.K. why worry about it? You can always update the GPS any time you want. I have heard the 3 axis compass in the 62s can sometimes be a pain to calibrate. I have the 76CSx with a full set of maps which basically is the same GPS as the 60CSx and I'll probably hang on to mine until the day it dies.

I haven't followed it too close but there is also talk about the government eventually replacing the existing satellites with a new breed that will be more accurate but the present GPS receivers won't be able to use the new signals. The only thing I don't know is what the time table is.

I hate to hear this..I have a 60csx also.. I really like it, esp on the water as a back up gps.. I bet this is like when micrsoft stopped updating win98.. it still worked fine but if it crashed that was it. I will keep on usin my 60csx until is "crashes" or stops workin right.. I dont know much about the 62's
Well the only problem Iv had with my 60 was it was freezing on start up and I had to send it back but it was still under warranty. I tried rebooting it and reloading but it didnt work. I couldn't imagine the government rushing to put up new sats.
I think ill do like you guys said and just use it till it dies and when that happens ill go for what Evers the best at the time. I do like that the Oregon comes with the preloaded Topo maps I paid $100 for the sd card. I hike in the mountains and sometimes at spots that are the middle of nowhere so its nice to know how steep areas are so I can plot my trek.
I really dont use alot of the features it has and i guess thats another reason to not update. But the oregon 550 is pretty sweet looking.

I stand corrected about the sats: http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123321065
If you're not aware of it you can get free Garmin topo maps here:

GPSFileDepot - All U.S. Garmin Compatible Maps

I don't know how useful they would be because I don't use topo maps
once ya get used to using a gps, it feels awkward not havin one... they are very handy

I googled it an couldnt find any indication the gov's plannin to replace with a new breed of gps sats.
I would think they replace them after so many years, im sure they get old and out dated. I would say it was for the military but I believe they have their own. although i could be wrong
If they are anything like TV satillites they are used for about fifteen years before they replace them.

There was a bunch of talk about it on the poi-factory forums, and usually they are pretty knowledgeable guys.
