Nav',
... how much does a helping hand (like the youngster helping you / "Tag" labour ) earn in your neck of the woods?
Is there a minimum wage set by the state/government?
:hmmmm:

yeah we have minimum wage here. i think its like 7.50 a hour.
but im paying him 100 a day plus fuel.
you can't expect a guy a use his truck hauling heavy loads
for less than that. especially when he's loading it by hand
alot of the time.
at least i wouldn't.
and hes the son of a good friend of mine.

Good evening all. Just finally settling down after a long day. Started off bad but got better as the day went. I met galaxieman to finish the deal on his new 1951 Winchester 94. Always a good day when you get to meet another member.
It was great meeting you as well Frank. I got to shoot the old girl tonight and she did great, At least as well as I can shoot with open sights anymore. I took it most of the way apart last night and it is really nice for a almost 70 year old rifle. Found some grime and gunk hiding in a few crevices and just the tiniest bit of rust under a few screws. No problem to clean up and now preserved. Really happy with it. And that metal buttplate hurts with 170 grain rounds.

the hunt yesterday was a bust.
we spent most of our time walking around in the woods
talking.
but hey, a walk in the woods with an old friend is
good any day.
me and this guy used to camp on the navasota river and run
jug lines back in the day...man, we hauled in some huge
blue cat back then.
we talked about getting us a deer lease and building a nice
camp on it.

we got back to his house and went out on his deck to have a glass of tea
and i noticed he had a mongo live-oak tree back there.
i told him hell-man, right here's where we ought to have hunted.
he said yeah, last year i came out here with my coffee one morning and
there was a big doe out there, and she never left.

i threw 5 old tires on that pile and 3 gallons of diesel.
wind blew all that black smoke right up in her new house.
she come out there and said a little something....
i drove up there on my backhoe and told her it was her idea
to have the trees removed...and she owed me 20.00 for
