Hi all...I hope I qualify. I have a Model 1899 in 303 Savage from 1912. When I was 12 years old my father borrowed a Savage 99A 303 Savage and it was the first rifle that I ever fired. Skip ahead 25 years...a lady in our church lost her husband and she asked if I'd come over to her house to see her husband's rifle. If I wanted it, I could have it. Well...it turned out to be this 1899 in the same caliber. It had a broken stock at the heal. It had a 3/4" piece missing. Being a woodworker, I pulled out a piece of matching walnut, hand carved it to fit and refinished the stock. Yes...I know it hurt the value but being FREE to me...I didn't feel I was ever going to hurt the "freeness" of the piece. I'm very happy with the results.
I don’t know if I want in or not. I got one but another guy has eleven. That would keep me up at night. Who the hell would have 11 of something. Make him throw one away or buy another one and I might join.🤣
