Hello Everyone....New to the thread.....I have a question for the readers. I'm thinking of taking my new BC 45-70 on a once in a lifetime Elk Hunt. I need your suggestions for a good factory type load and your thoughts on whether you think I'll get laughed out of camp when I draw that long barreled cannon out to go out on the hunt. What do you guys think? Good idea or what?

I wouldn't be ashamed to whip out that big cannon! The 45-70 has been killing Elk for over 100 years! Most of which was done with a single shot rifle! Have at it! And have a great hunt! :D

I would do it just for the looks of other hunters around Me! One thing
you may want to do is check with the guide. He may tell you that
the shots at the Elk avg 200 yards or more. Although the 1895 CB
is a great gun (I have one) 200 yards is pushing it a bit.
Either way good luck on your hunt.

I have taken several trips out to Montana. On one of the first hunts I went on out there, I took My Marlin’s 45-70. It is a good gun if you are going to shoot up close and personal, but most of the shots were over 200 yards. I found that my 270 Mag Weatherby worked the best.
