I'm going to be boar hintin' with my 336 sometime in the next year and I'm curious; Have any of you had any experience with the PMC 30-30 Starfire bullets? How would you rate their performance? I contacted PMC personally, and they almost 'garanteed' them for boar hunting, but I prefer a hunters viewpoint as well.

Oldebones,

I have a friend who boar hunts regularly with his 336 in 30/30. He has used the "Starfires" with good success but he switched to using Hornady ammo in the 170gr jacketed FP and only uses that load for everything now. I have had great success on Deer using the 170gr Hornady's but haven't used them on Boar yet. The PMC Starfire bullet is 150gr. I would think that a heavier 170gr bullet might penetrate deeper in a tough Boar. My friend uses the Hornady 170gr FP ammo because he said it penetrates deeper than the "Starfire" ammo. Too bad they don't offer it in a 170gr version?
