I have just reached agreement to buy an almost unshot 1999 336CB in 30-30. Although it is virtually unused, from the photos the wood looks as if it needs a good cleaning and maybe a bit of a polish with something like Birchwood-Casey Stock Sheen and conditioner. Does anyone know if this stock is pre-Marshield and if it is what they used as a topcoat at the time? Thanks!

I believe that ALL CB's were finished with the Marshield finish. It is very easy refinished, just sand it smooth (not necessary to sand it all off) and apply Minwax Wipe-On Poly. I use clear satin and with a bit of practice it can be made to look like a fine oil finish but is much tougher.
