Well I am starting out on my .38-55 quest. Ordered an octagon barrel and a straight grip trigger plate from Numrich last thursday. The basis for this will be a Wards model 740, that was in less than great shape. Looking for a source for a period style bead front and buckhorn or semi buckhorn rear, any recomendations? Probably going with a Treebone stock set w/cressent butt plate. Hope to have some pictures up in a couple of months!

good luck on the project. I have replaced all the buckhorn sights on mine with the standard Marlin folder. BHs are too fuzzy for my liking. The front sights are from Skinner, posts of my specs. Nice thing about a post front is that I can file it as I find necessary. Order tall and start whittling!! Most of them long barreled oldies have short front sights. Hope to see them stocks when you're done.
